Day 5 (28 Aug 2003) Animal Kingdom

I really want to like this park, but I have not warmed up to it totally yet.

Today, we got a slow start after yesterday’s fun filled day at Magic Kingdom. Once we got to AK, we headed to Kilamenjaro Safari first thing. After a leisurely trip through the Savannah, we moved to Dinoland. At that point, DH and I split up. He stayed in the Boneyard and Triceratops Spin (4 times) with DD2 while I took DD1 on Dinosaur. She had a great time! And even had to have a dinosaur toy. A funny aside, as we were getting ready to get into our time capsule, I was explaining to DD1 that it was like Tower of Terror where we were in our own seats, but right next to each other. She was cool with that, but the teenage girl (with her dad) behind us was astounded. She very incredulously asked if DD1 had really gone on Tower of Terror, and was very surprised when I said yes! Then she had to take a try at Triceratops Spin, so DH rode yet again with DD2! After that, we headed to the Flame Tree for lunch. I had the BBQ Chicken Salad which was tasty, and DH had the smoked pork sandwich. DDs split a hot dog (2 small hot dogs) meal. After lunch, DD1 and I headed for Kali River Rapids while DH and DD2 headed back to the hotel for nap. Unfortunately neither of us had much luck. It took DH more than an hour to get back to the hotel, and DD1 and I had a long wait in line. I actually opted not to get an FP because the standby wait was 20 minutes and FP return window opened 45 minutes later. Well, an hour later, we were not on the ride yet, the FP time we could have gotten had started and the infamous FL cloudburst had occurred. Fortunately, AK did not shut down Kali due to inclement weather, but DD1 and I rode in the tail end of the rain storm. Not that it mattered since we got wet anyway. We had fun though. After that, we headed towards Camp Minnie-Mickey which we found very disappointing. As DD1 and I headed out of AK, and we got stopped by a researcher. Ten minutes later, we hopped on the bus back to our resort. Shortly after DD1 and I got back to the resort, DD2 woke up from her nap. I took a shower, and we headed off on a resort hop. We stopped at the Polynesian, did some window shopping, tossed some coins in the lobby fountain/waterfall/display, had a Mai Tai, and put DD1 in time out (oops, I guess that would be a different trip report!). After that, we hopped on the monorail again to the Grand Floridian for dinner with Cinderella at 1900 Park Fair. DD1 had a great time at this dinner. We were seated right next to the buffet, and we let DD1 get her own stuff at the kids buffet without our supervision. She felt like such a big girl! Anyway, we got to see Fairy Godmother, Suzy, Perla and Prince Charming fairly quickly, but Cinderella was no where to be seen. After a heartfelt plea (DD2 was maxed and needed to leave) to a sympathetic CM (and Cinderella’s “handler”), Cinderella disrupted her normal rounds to come visit us. DD1 was thrilled; DD2 couldn’t care less (such is the life of a 22-month-old). We made a quick exit after that. Dinner was good, but service seemed lacking. Yes, it was a buffet, but out server was hard to find for anything. Not sure if it was too few servers on too many tables or what, but our Chef Mickey’s server was far more attentive. After dinner, we headed back to our resort, hung out at the playground for a while, then bath and bed! Tomorrow…Magic Kingdom in the morning and Epcot in the afternoon/evening (after nap)!

Wonderful reviews ~ Thanx for sharing!!!!

your day was packed and full of fun........I love the Dinosaur ride....hubby and I try to do it at least three times a visit......always something different I may of missed before and I love to hear others scream their heads off.....thanks so much for your day

Once again, thanks for the reports! You do such a great job with them. I have heard lots of rumblings about WDW wait times double if not triple to what the signs say, that kind of stinks, but I'm glad you girls had fun anyway!
