Does any one have any info or links on places to go for a day trip away from WDW?
We wont have a car or anything so would need local transport or book a bus trip. Its my dad that wants to do something other then disney while we are thier, I think hes crazy but thats just me ;) We are staying on site as well which i think will make it difficult to get away??

Im not planning to go with them though, im thier for disney lol. So itll be a nice solo day for me if they decide to explore somewere else.

TIA for any help.

Do you think he might like the Kennedy Space Centre? That would take pretty much a full day and you can arrange tickets with transport for it.

Yes he would, how easy would transport be to arrange? He was talking about going to a small town for the day to see some "real" america. But i know he would like Kennedy as well.

I haven't been to KSC so what I tell you will be from the book but many others on here have been and I am sure someone could tell you first hand about the transport. Someone posted about it on here a few weeks ago but I can't recall what they said.

He could also look at going to Kissimee or Celebration, but it is much harder and more hassle when you have to arrange your own transport IMO. There is so much to do. Did he give you any other hints about what he would like to see/do?

No he didnt, just that he wants to see a local town and eat at a proper american type dinner - think hes seen to much man vs food!!

My mum has also joined in now saying she wants a day away from disney - I wouldnt mind but its our first ever trip and we are only thier for 10 days.

I really enjoy Kennedy Space Center, seeing the giant shuttles and mock-up of the space station etc. Buying astronaut food :) I'm not sure on transport but there are buses that arrive with guests.

The national parks are lovely if you enjoy nature, it really does show off Florida's wildlife, but again I'm not sure on transport with them.

Hi

We looked into a tour to KSC last year and the pick up point was at the swan hotel for that tour company. you have to make your own way to the pick up point and it was early in the morning 6:45amish

There are various places that do arranged tours and most tour companies like Expedia offer the chance to pre book.

There are loads of other tours you can book as well like tours to go on an airboat ride etc. Just type into a search engine guided tours in orlando and see what pops up.

Most people on here seem to go with gator tours.

When I went with my mum and sister in 2005 we did a boat trip on Lake Tohopekaliga, it was so relaxing and nice to see the 'real' Florida for a little while :) The company we booked with picked us up and dropped us off from our hotel (we didn't have a car) for a small extra charge and the boat captain was really knowledgeable. It wasn't an air boat, just a normal speed boat type of thing. Definitely would recommend it :goodvibes

We did a trip a few years back which was swimming with manatees at Crystal River, trip to Hommassassa park and an airboat ride. Cracking day and worth the cost. We arranged this through Virgin Holidays.

Trip to the KSc is a good day out. Easily arranged with tour companies.

A trip to Celebration is not really the real America, it's pretty much a town built by Disney and is a little bit like the movie The Truman Show. There are some nice places to eat and sit by the lake however maybe not what your father is looking for.

Thanks everyone, ill show my dad this thread, and the links posted.
