Monday, July 29 ~~
Again, today was not going to be a "commando-style park day", so we DID enjoy "sleeping in" until about 7:40AM. (we would be going "non-stop" later in the week, though!)
By 9:30AM, we were "cruisin' " I-4 East and headed for the beautiful, blue surf, otherwise known as Daytona Beach. Traffic was not bad at all (it was mostly westbound, headed TOWARDS Orlando) and we reached Daytona city limits in just under an hour! The really cool thing about Daytona Beach was that you drive your vehicle directly on the sand and park. That way, you are never more than about 30 or 40 yards from your car. That's when my DH and DS spotted the "rental" sign for 4-wheelers! Well, being the dare-devils that they are, hurried over and rented two 4-wheelers, for a trek along the 7-mile beach. My Ds-in-L, 8 y.o. DS, and I opted to stay behind and enjoy the sun and surf. For those of you who have "experienced" the Jersey shore, Daytona Beach is not too different, except no crushed shells, no jellyfish, and NO SEAWEED! In fact, I thought the water would be much more clear than it was. Later in the day, we rented boogie-boards and "rode the waves". it was a PERFECT beach day - not a cloud in sight, hot (not hazy), and a beautiful ocean breeze. By 3:30, we decided we would head back to Orlando, so we packed up our gear and proceeded to drive along the main street south to "check out" the rest of Daytona Beach. Of course, we HAD to make a pit-stop ("Daytona 500" race humor here
!!) at the Krispy Kreme donut shop, purchasing a dozen of their finest, fresh out of the oven!
In almost no time, we found ourselves back at CBR, where we showered and changed, and eager to grab a bite for dinner. It was going to be extremely difficult to top last night's dinner, but, appetites in tow, searched anyway. Driving along 535, we encountered a "Golden Corral". Since we had eaten at one last year (at downtown colonial Williamsburg), we decided to give this one a try. Boy, were we sorely disappointed! The only good thing about this place was the inexpensive bill, which further proves "You get what you pay for". (I have to admit, though, the freshly baked pizzas WERE good
!) At least we could look forward to our Krispy Kreme donuts and freshly brewed java once back at our room. Oh, I forgot to mention: it just began to drizzle slightly as I was parking the van; it subsided 5 minutes later. We really HAVE BEEN lucky with the Florida weather....
Okay, now I'm prepared for what comes next....LAUNDRY DUTY!!!! Detergent, bleach, dirty clothes, and quarters in hand, I made a brief walk to the laundry room, located on the side of the quiet pool (near Bldg #54). A load of clothes is $2.00 and one cycle in the dryer is another $2.00. For those of you thinking about using this facility, bring a $10 roll of quarters to save time. While waiting for the clothes to dry, I hopped into the van and drove to OPR to re-supply my 3 DS's with quarters for (what else??) the arcade. By the time I returned, my clothes were dry and ready to be folded and put back into the suitcases. By 11:30 PM, the suitcases were packed and a call was made to bell-services to arrange to have our luggage transferred to WL, to begin the second part of our vacation......

! Powder white sand, pretty shells and clearblue/green water. Much nicer than the Atlantic, the Gulf is what Florida is all about IMHO
