We hadn’t set a wake up call for this morning, I woke at 7.45am. By 8.10am I was lying on a hammock on the Jamaica beach reading my Harry Potter book. Tricia appeared about 9.15am. We took a walk over to Old Port Royale and filled our mugs, we had already had breakfast. I bought the Disney theme park edition of Monopoly, I already have two versions of this game, the original and the Glasgow edition, I must be a mad collector and didn’t even realise it.
When we headed back over to Jamaica we went to the pool. For 25 minutes I was the only person in the pool and dreamed of having a pool like this in my back garden, okay I would have to move house or have a very large garden extension but hey, I can dream can’t I. The water was glorious, it was only 10am and it was really hot already. Stayed at the pool until 11am and then went back to the room to get changed.
We were going to Planet Hollywood for lunch but first of all we had to go to Customs House to pay for Tuesday’s e-night. Headed for Barbados walking through the car parks and then followed the path past the wooded area until we came to the Barbados bus stop, crossed the road and into Customs House, it was so warm today, my little legs were hurting but I think it was the effort they were making to keep my mules on my feet rather than the walk. Got the tickets for Tuesday’s e-night and asked about the e-night on the Friday to save us coming back over to Customs House again. Unfortunately Friday’s wasn’t showing on the system so we would have to come back, made a mental note to wear different footwear. Walked back over to Barbados and the bus for Downtown Disney came within 10 minutes. How come when the buses come really quick when you aren’t in a hurry.
We were seated straight away when we got to Planet Hollywood, it wasn’t busy at all. Our server was Emily and she was really nice. I had grilled salmon and Tricia had Lasagne. I finished mine which had to be a first for me in America, I never finish anything as the portions are too big.
After lunch we headed across to AMC and decided to see Finding Nemo, it was starting in 5 minutes and won’t be shown in the UK until October. Got some sweets and coke and went into the hall. The seats were cool, very spacious and very comfortable. Surprisingly I didn’t fall asleep. The film was good, I really enjoyed it and when the credits came up I noticed it was written by Andrew Stanton. I told Tricia I know Andrew Stanton but the one I know is only 4 so I don’t think it was him that wrote it. When we came out the cinema we went into Virgin and I found Robbie William’s Escapology on sale for $7.99. I had been meaning to buy this for ages at home but had never got round to it so I bought it and was pleased to have got Robbie cheaper than I would have paid for him in the UK. Brilliant CD (actually listening to it as I type this). Went into the magnet shop next, picked up 3 magnets that were 3 for $10. When I went to pay the cashier said if you bought 4 you got one half price. I can’t believe I fell for this sales patter and even more surprisingly so did Tricia. There we were running round the shop looking for another magnet, when we got outside we realised that we had actually bought another magnet, that we hadn’t actually wanted, just to get it half price. Must have been the heat, we’re not normally conned that easily.
Headed over to the bus stops at Pleasure Island to get the bus to the Contemporary so we could go to the Magic Kingdom. We were sitting for about 10 minutes when we saw a fire engine, ambulance and police car fly by on the main road outside, there was also a helicopter overhead. After another 5 minutes a security man comes over to the bus stop and tells us and the other people waiting that the entrance to the bus bays was closed because there was a bus on fire so the buses would pick us up elsewhere. The bus that was on fire was three parking bays up from where we were sitting and we had been oblivious to the whole thing. It must have been a little fire because we never saw or smelt any smoke. The security man directed onto the bus and we were soon at the Contemporary. Had a look around and before we went for the monorail Tricia phoned Mears to arrange our pick up for tomorrow for going to Island of Adventures, we were meeting Judith at 9am so we arranged our pick up for 8.35am.
Got monorail over to Magic Kingdom and headed for Splash to get fastpasses. We went on Pirates of the Caribbean on the way as the line was so short, when we came out the ride into the shop I showed Tricia something that would be perfect for myself and Judith for our day at MGM on Wednesday, she said it would be very us but looked horrified. I decided to ask Judith about it tomorrow and if she agreed I would buy them on Tuesday at E-night. Once we had our fast passes for Splash we got on the train over to Toontown, the train stopped outside Toontown station and we sat here for about 15 minutes. The train in front had broken down and we had to wait until it had been removed from the track. The driver told us we were welcome to stick our heads out of the train while were stopped but not to put our bodies out as there might be snakes and alligators. On this cheery note I told Tricia if they tried evacuating the train then someone would have to carry me because I would not be walking. Thankfully the train was able to move once the one in front had been cleared. Got off here and went into the County Bounty to do some shopping. We were looking at jewellery boxes for my friend’s little girl when I spotted a Cinderella ornament that was missing her head. Wondered if the ugly stepsisters had beheaded her. Took a photo because it looked so funny sitting in amongst all the other perfect Cinderella’s. Chose a jewellery box and a Mickey Mouse chain for Megan, some keyrings, some jaw breakers and a couple of postcards and went to pay for them. I paid with Traveller Cheque and when the CM fed it into the cash register for some reason it charged me for a squeeze breeze. She commented on how the register had gone crazy and said she would edit the squeeze breeze. When she gave me my change I was nearly $20 short, I told her and she said no the change was correct that she taken the cost of the squeeze breeze off. Emptied everything out onto the counter and added it up and front of her and told her she had overcharged me, she said, “There is sales tax to be added too” I told her I knew that but the sales tax didn’t come to almost $20. Tricia asked her if she couldn’t just ring it up again, and we pointed out to her that the receipt stated that the squeeze breeze was removed but the amount didn’t change. She asked the CM next to her what she should do and she replied that she didn’t know and she would have to get a supervisor. When the supervisor came she told him we were sure she had overcharged us but she HAD removed the squeeze breeze from the total and it was correct, we showed him the receipt and he told her to ring it up again. She had overcharged us, the supervisor apologised.
After this drama it was time for our fast pass return for Splash so we headed back over there, rode Splash and got the front row seats and we got very wet. Watched Spectro Magic from the fence at Peco Bill’s. We had to stand on some seats but the view was great. Half way through the parade a family arrived and stood on stools beside us, the teenage girl had a camcorder and was hanging over the fence. She was using external lighting on the camcorder, she shouted at every character and Mary Poppins told her she would have to turn the external light off, she ignored her.
Watched the fireworks from Main Street, they looked gorgeous with the castle as the backdrop.
Returned to resort and went to bed after setting a wake up call for the morning.
