Day 6 of 6 : Ice, vomit and going home

Friday

We had breakfast booked in the hotel for 9.15am, Josh seemed a lot better this morning and he had a good nights sleep and seemed well rested for the day.

We called down to Bell Services and told them that we were checking out of the AF (Admirals floor) and could they pick the bags up, they didn’t know what we were talking about and we would need to bring them down ourselves. We only called them to pick up the bags as the AF Desk told us to do that. We decided to get breakfast and sort it out on the way back passed the desk.

We went down to breakfast and walked passed the fish tank with Nemo, Marlin and Dory in. We settled down to our normal breakfast but Josh just really didn’t seem interested in it. He only had two very small sips of orange juice and he them vomited all over. We grabbed loads of napkins and cleaned up and shouted to the waitress who brought over more. Well that was the end of breakfast.

On the way back to the room Tracey collared the guy on the AF desk and told them what Bell Services had said and he told us to ignore them, he took our room number and told us it would be sorted.

After we had gone back to the room and got cleaned we headed to the Studios.

At Josh’s request we went back to Animagique – it was nice sitting the 3 of us in a warm theatre enjoying the show. Josh seemed to perk up a bit after this and seemed more like himself.

We took the short walk back over to Disneyland gift shop for a new Tinkerbell jumper for Tracey (as Josh had been sick down the other one) – 20 Euros in the sale. Tracey also bought a new magic towel for Josh and his little friend, some more Mickey pasta (which Josh wanted), a new mobile phone cover for Tracey’s phone (as previously she had been using an old baby sock) and some gifts.

As it was before 12 noon we decided to head to Salon Mickey for a hot chocolate and some water for Josh. Got talking to some very friendly people from the Emerald Isle – sure one was called Tracey (liltigger) and it turned out they were from the DISBoards and forgot about the meet the other day. I was asking them if there was a national holiday in Ireland as we kept hearing the Irish accent through our trip but there wasn’t.

Headed back to the Studios as Josh wanted to see the Motor Stunt Show again (it was slightly longer show than the other day as the weather was a bit better so the motorbikes took part in the show).

Still just as cold sitting on those plastic seats but Josh loved it.

Then headed for Café Mickey as had a 1.30pm prioriy seating. We eventually got attended to, once again no-one on the front desk and slow seating people. Tracey and I had the set meal for 30 euros, Tracey had Lilo and Stitch Tomato Soup (very thick and creamy), then Pinocchio Pasta (very nice and filling) then Crème Brulee (absolutely gorgeous). I had Garlic mushrooms then Fish and Chips (didn’t look as nice as fish and chips back home but tasty) then apple pie (which he said was very nice) While we were having lunch Tracey’s mobile rang it was RS Transport that was picking us up to take us to the airport – they asked if they could change our reservation time slightly to 5.15pm from 5.00pm – I told them to make it 5.30pm instead.

We ordered a child’s meal for Josh he wanted a Mickey Cheeseburger and chips – and a cup of water – he didn’t touch any of it.

There were quite a few characters there, Mickey (of course), Minnie, Chip and Dale (sorry Tic and Tac in French or so I am told), Friar Tuck and Honest John – Josh just couldn’t be bothered with any of them including Mickey.

Just as we were leaving Josh vommitted, so a dive down to the toilets and a quick clean up for Josh and me. He fell asleep in his pushchair after we had cleaned him up – hoping he would feel a lot better after his sleep.

While he slept we walked to Disneyland and just generally walked around – we tried to explore Adventure Isle but this was quite unsuccessful as there was loads of steps which was no good with a sleeping child in a pushchair.

We decided to watch the 4.00pm parade – Josh woke up half way through it. He then asked to go on his favourite ride again It’s a Small World – while walking there he vommitted again (surprised he has anything left to bring up as he hadn’t eaten anything) – he then just wanted to go back to the hotel – he must have been bad not to want to ride It’s a Small World a final time.

We walked back to our hotel to collect our luggage, Stephen rang RS Transport to tell them we were ready to be collected and they could come anytime for us. RS came shortly after we had called and told us they had someone else to collect from the Sequoia Lodge as we had a shared taxi booked.

Shared the ride back to CDG with a nice couple and their daughter, we exchanged DLP and WDW stories. Really concerned that Josh was going to vomit in the taxi going back but he seemed to be okay. I was carrying a plastic bag which I had already checked for holes just in case though.

When we arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport our flight was showing as delayed by 15 minutes – we checked our luggage in, we weren’t happy as they made up put Josh’s pushchair in with the luggage as he was over 3 years old. We argued and argued but told us that it was the rules of the airport and in the end we relented The check in girl told us the signs were wrong and our flight would be on time but she had been lying, juts think she wanted the angry British tourists away from her desk.

Once again (like in May) we were stuck in the worst Terminal in the world for a few hours with nothing to do. Bought a bottle of water 1 euro 80 and drank it and then bought a further two which had to be in a sealed bag to go through security for us to take on the plane. Josh seemed was a lot more his normal self and was asking to go to the toilet every 5 minutes for a wee he just didn’t need, he just loved the flushers that you set off with your foot.

We went through security into the smallest departure lounge I have ever been in since the last time we were in it. Josh was absolutely exhausted but refusing to sleep and all our cajoling to get him to do it fell on small deaf ears. They had given us special assistance boarding so when our plane did arrive we were among the first to get on it.

Very quickly they had us up in the air and heading back to the green and pleasant land we call home. Josh and Tracey both fell asleep on the plane and even I managed to grab the occasional 5 or 10 minutes too.

We landed and as always they parked our plane at the furthest point away from the Central Terminal. So there was a forced march back along winding corridors back to the luggage return. I could not believe it when our bags were among some of the first to come off the baggage carousel, this just normally doesn’t happen.

We got back to our car to find a thick layer of ice on it, which took multiple coatings of de-icer and the heaters on full to eventually clear it. Screen clear and parking paid we were away home. Josh fell asleep in the car and only woke up momentarily when we arrived home, he was in stripped and fast asleep in bed in about 5 minutes. We were not in bed long after him and that is the end of our trip.

A few points from this trip, some good some bad.

Travel
We will use the Easyjet/RS Transport option again next time as we have never had any real trouble using them. The only issue we ever have is flying home the flight is always delayed.

The Hotel
The New Port Bay was a beautiful hotel, it had a lovely restaurant and a wonderful pool but we will stay at the Santa Fe next time as Josh has requested it and I would rather use the price difference as spends.

Eating
Café Mickey was even better this time than last, the food was good and the character interaction is the best we have had at DLRP. Hopefully Josh will be feeling better next time though. The meals we had at the Cape Cod restaurant were always very good, liked getting in early before the parks closed though as I would imagine it would be very busy after that time. Loved my Croque Monsieur, it is now a must have when we visit. We will never again venture into the Lucky Nugget after our experience this time, I still need write a letter of complaint to them. We would love to try eating in the studios next time but there is not a great deal of choice.

Rides
Fantasyland is still Josh’s favourite area of the park and it may be for a few years yet, was pleased that he went BTM and Star Tours this time as he really enjoyed them and he felt like a grown up going on the big fella rides. We have still to ride RnRC at DLRP but not a big miss as have ridden it to death at WDW. Hopefully by the next time we go Playhouse Disney should be at the Studios but by then it may be more for Tracy and me rather than Josh.

Our Return to DLRP
We are already talking of going again next year, I have asked if we should go when it is warmer but we are leaning towards a very early January trip again as to see all the decorations and Santa riding through the park was magical. We may do Buffalo Bills again next year if they add Mickey as I think it would grab Josh’s attention better than last time. As said above we will stay at the Santa Fe as per request and we may even use the shuttle buses.

Well I would like to say thanks to all who read it all and made such nice comments and a special thanks to Tracey for keeping notes of the experience as without them there would be none of the above.

Another great day, except for poor Josh. I hope he recovered quickly.

Loved the photos, thanks for sharing your trip:thumbsup2

He vomitted once the following day but was pretty much back to himself, Tracey and him had a quiet few days in the house while I unfortuntely had to work that weekend.

Glad to hear he is better now:thumbsup2

Poor little Josh. Great trip report - I've really enjoyed reading it!:thumbsup2

Thanks for a great trip report. I have just read all 6 six installments, having saved them up because I like to read the whole report so I don't lose track of things! When I went through CDG in January I also had to check in my pram, even though my daughter was just a month over her 2nd birthday, so I don't think it was only the over 3s. Luckily I had her reins in my hand luggage as I really needed it to keep her strapped into & prevent her from running wild over the airport!

I hope you get to go back next year as planned.

Great report Steve, I agree with another early January trip even though the weather was very cold its a great time to go.

Loved your report Steve, and all the great pics and captions. Hope Josh is all better now.

Emma the funny thing now is that every time the group meet shot comes on our digital photo frame Josh says "That's our new friends" and I don't think he even talked to other the kids he was so busy playing in the snow.

Kids are just weird
