Today we travelled to Florence. It was going to be 95 degrees outside but our guides said we were lucky - it was 99 the day before. The guides were great about trying to keep everyone in the shade. We did a tour of the city with our local expert who was very nice and knowledgeable.
Our other guide, Marco V.
We had timed entry to the David (11:30 or so) but there was a line for the timed entry people who had tickets earlier than us so we waited outside a while. When we finally went in the guide pointed out interesting facts like how David looks so strong and fearless
but when you look at another angle you see some trepidation.
We had a long walk to get to our lunch (lasagna). The bus would leave for the return to the hotel at either 5 or 7 but since the stores closed at 6:30 everyone returned at the earlier time. Most people left after lunch to do some shopping on their own but a few went with the guides to see the Palazzo Vecchio and then have about an hour for shopping before it was time to return. The guides recommended a leather store that gave us 20% off for being Disney guests. We bought some very nice items there. Upon returning to the hotel a few people walked into town (about 20 minutes away) for dinner and others stayed at the hotel. The kids ended up together playing cards and tricks and chess in the lobby for a few hours. The hotel has a very small bar with a very small TV and since the World Cup was on several people gathered there to watch the game. The drink selection was limited but I felt like a margarita. About 20 minutes later they brought me a pizza. I told them I wanted the drink, not the pizza. Something to keep in mind when visiting Italy.
