Day 4

“Rest” Day!!

Cast:

Me - mother and dutiful wife…and biggest kid of them all!! 34
DH – Affectionately known as Squirrel…ageing punk rocker and tattoos to boot…40
DD – our princess Millie…..6, and turns 7 in WDW!

After a very busy couple of days we planned for today to be a rest day, well…kind of!

The plan was to walk around POR down to FQ…catch the boat to DTD….spend a couple of hours there then back for a swim and, well to relax quite frankly!!

So, no alarms were set….we’d wake up when we wake up….so, naturally, I was awake at 5am!!!! Grrrrrrr……I tip toed about, got dressed and had my morning ciggie on the landing…..watching the world go by – it’s really lovely that time of morning!!......mooched about some more - poured over the park maps in my lovely yellow Mickey Welcome pack and was re-reading the park times etc. Millie and daddy still in the land of nod! And me thinking “we’re wasting holiday time!”…….So, I showered and wandered over to the food court, as the bakery opens at 6, and since our breakfast diet now consisted of doughnuts and croissants I was able to provide the “room service”, just this once! When I came back hubby had stirred but Millie was still soundo, so I left hubby to it – I dug out the cruise docs and headed back to the main reception – they have a cruise desk there that opens at 7.30 today!

Talked to the lovely lady about our cruise and handed her our completed paper work – I also paid to have out stateroom decked out in birthday decorations and a birthday cake,,,this would be in our room on arrival….$30…pretty good! The nice lady asked whose birthday it was….”Millie, our daughter, she will be 7 and the cruise is a birthday surprise!”…..”ooooh, who is her favorite character?”,,,she asks. Well prior to the cruise I would have said a princess or Eeyore but it transpires she has switched allegiances to Pluto ….so “Pluto” I say. Hmmmm. So she hands me lots of important papers etc. and informs me that our suitcases needed to be properly tagged (with the cruise tags) and left by our air con unit for 8am on the day of our departure (groan…another early morning!). Anyway, that’s that little lot all sorted…back to today now.

Back in the room and all are awake…..before long we are all up and about and head out towards the “ol man island” (I think!)…this is the island that POR circles around…..Millie was dying to see the pool..Pretty cool and note this as a “must do”. Have a nice leisurely walk around…the fishing creek is so pretty

Then over to the magnolia buildings part of POR - again. Very very pretty……I don’t know why but I really felt at home in the alligator bayou buildings…rustic and rambly…then down to POFQ – again, pretty but seemed too…..what’s the word….symmetrical?? the buildings seemed more on top of each other, especially around the pool area. We grabbed a bite to eat in the food court here then jumped on the boat to DTD

Going down to DTD in daylight was great but we could really see the damage caused by the hurricanes though….the “tree houses” were out of use as they still had trees on them!!

We walked and walked and walked around “marketplace” and before we knew it, it was 3pm!!!! I KNOW! We couldn’t believe it and we had hardly bought a thing!!! Millie bought a new pin from the trading shop and we just mosied around…..Millie had her heart set on the charm bracelets and spent ages picking out all the charms for it……this I had planned to get her for her birthday, so I convince her to leave it as it costs too much (yes my nose grew a few inches!!)…so she agreed to wait until the end of the holiday as we had seen them everywhere – if she had enough money at the end then she could buy one. We spent ages in "Once upon a Toy" and the other HUGE disney shop. I had seen the "Disney" Bears in the shop @ Fultons and all over the parks - it' soo cute (I am also a sucker for bears!!)...anyway, it's in Once Upon a Toy that Hubby notices the "book"...

...and my heartstrings are pulled...I MUST have one of those bears before we leave WDW!!!....I won't go into the story as I am assuming all you Disneyoholics know about it...... :wizard:

We grabbed a drink at McDs (I know, I did not come all the way to the US of A to go to a blinking McDs!!). We then stroll down past Pleasure Island, all decked out in Mardis Gras decs…we would love to have done this but it would have been too much for Millie….

then strolled down to the West Side – we loved the HOB .Millie bought some Mardi Gras beads in there and we decided to have dinner here – lovely food! I had Jambalaya, DH had ribs and Millie had chicken strips – YUM! We then moved outside and have another drink and chilled for a bit

Millie was in a world of her own, bless….she often goes off to “Millie land”…talking away to herself and well, just being so darn cute!...playing “schools” with her empty glass, straw and table mats?! DON:T ASK!! ?! Then out of the blue she pipes up …”Mummy, why don’t some of the characters talk”?? ..SILENCE…..MIND IS RACING……”Urm….they’re shy (!!!???)”…..”they have to see soooo many people everyday and be all smiley…this would be pretty tough all day so they wear costumes…and could you imagine having to talk to thousands of people each day??”….”O” she says…..”that’s what I thought” she continues….”and guess what Mummy?! I saw the REAL Chip under his costume !!”….”WOW” I say…..

Phew…think we got away with that one! The magic lives on, bless.

It’s time to head back so we dawdled back over to Marketplace and catch the boat back to POR……decided to walk around the back of our building and we find another pool!!! It’s a lot smaller but so close to our building, I can’t believe we missed it!!

It’s about 7.30 now so we head back to our room and chill….me and Millie explore the park maps further whilst Daddy heads over for a pint in the bar area. We’re both sound asleep by the time DH comes back at 9pm!

So much for a rest day!

Tomorrow…Seaworld.

Another great report Laura, I can't wait to hear about the Disney Cruise (was the Pirate Night on?), when did you do the cruise. Fab photos too.

So much for a rest day then :) I love Downtown Disney, especially the Marketplace - I could spend hours there. Sounds like you had a great time there, and a nice dinner at House of Blues. I've never eaten there. Looking forward to hearing more.
