We got up very early. We had a 9:00 reservation for Donald's Breakfastosaurus. We got to the West Depot about 7:45 thinking that we had plenty of time to catch a bus to the Animal Kingdom. There was only one other couple there waiting. A nameless bus pulled up for another character breakfast. Wow! Would we get one? Two buses later, a nameless bus pulled up. The driver got out and asked if we were going to see Donald. Yes!
We got to the Animal Kingdom right after 8:00. How were we going to pass the time? We went to the left and got in the character breakfast line. We checked in and our name was called right away. We had a good waiter who led us through to the restaurant, telling us trivia about the park. Check my dining review for more information about breakfast.
We finished breakfast about 9:10. When we walked outside there was such a huge crowd waiting to get in. Some had 20 - 30 minute waits (I overheard them talking). It pays to get there early sometimes.
We went to ride the Kilamanjaro Safaris. There was a 10 minute wait so we got right in line. Our driver was great! He had the perfect accent. Driving through he slowed down and even stopped to give us perfect photo ops with the animals. I got some good pictures.
A trip through the Pangani Forest was a must. The gorillas posed and played for us. Plenty of photo ops.
Walking out of Africa we turned to the left. Why there was Baloo and hardly anyone to take his picture with. Carol got in line and two minutes later we were off to see the Flights of Wonder show. This is a good bird show. I think that some of the birds are brought out to the State Fair of Texas each year. If not, than their shows are very similar.
James wanted to see Tarzan Rocks and Carol wanted to go to The Boneyard. After a brief discussion, we got a fast pass for Primeval Whirl and went to see Tarzan Rocks. We all like this show and were able to get seats fairly close in the lower section, last row with our backs to the rail. During the show, one of the "monkeys" sniffed Carol's hair.
Primeval Whirl was next. We were a little early for this ride and so we stood and watched. Some of the cars spin more than others. I was feeling fine but hoped that this ride would not make me sick. It was time to get on the ride. Did you know that they have two rides? One for standby and one for fast pass? I found that out when we were exiting the ride. Anyway, wouldn't you know that we got a car that spun around and around and around. I couldn't help but laugh out loud but inside I kept telling myself that it would be over soon. It was a fun ride though. I would ride it again if I had something to keep me from feeling nauseous. I rested while James and Carol went through the Boneyard.
It was past noon now and we wanted to eat lunch in our room. So we decided to ride the Kali River Rapids and make it our last ride for the day. With only a 15 minute standby we went on and got in line. I had brought a raincoat to wear because I always get wet but my family teased me so much, I decided not to wear it. When will I learn to listen to myself sometimes? A number of people were buying raincoats and that should have told me something. James was bragging on how he never gets wet, which is true. But not this time. He did get wet. His shorts and shirt were soaked. Joe was hardly wet. What luck! Carol was as wet as James. As for me, I looked like a drowned rat. I was wet from the top of my head to my ankles. My feet had been up on the bar and my shoes only got wet because I had to step in water to get out of the ride. I knew better than to wear blue jeans that day.
Have you ever worn wet blue jeans? I'm sure some of you have. The temperature was perfect if you were dry. It was a long walk to the bus. People just kept looking at me. My pants stuck to me making it hard to walk. On the way to the bus, one lady asked me why I was so wet. She didn't know that there was a water ride in the Animal Kingdom. She got on her cell phone to tell the rest of her group that was still in there about the ride. I guess I was wet for something good.
I wasn't sure the bus driver would let me on the bus but he did. The air was on and I was just freezing. Someone had left a newspaper on the bus so I had something to sit on that would soak up the water.
When our bus arrived at our depot, it was hard to get up and out of the bus because my jeans were sticking to me. The newspaper I was sitting on was soaked through liked I had put it under a faucet of running water. I didn't leave a puddle in my seat though. The paper took care of that.
Never did a hotel room look so welcome! We ate in our room while we all warmed up. I am so glad we had brought food to eat!
Since the purpose of our trip was to do different things, we decided to try some miniature golf. Catching a bus to Blizzard Beach, we headed off to play.
Winterland/Summerland is a fun place to go. We chose Summerland. On one of the holes, a fish squirts water at you if you are not paying attention and on another Santa is in the sand snoring. One hole was wet from the melting snow. Each hole has clues which will tell you what to do if you pay attention. I would have won if it hadn't taken me so many tries to putt hole 18. Its not as easy as it looks.
We chose not to do Winterland for half price much to Carol's disappointment. Looking back we should have. It would have been fun.
Back at the resort, James and Carol decided to go swimming in the main pool. It was nice and warm. They swam for about an hour and a half before declaring they were hungry. We ate dinner in the food court. Joe had met a couple from Arizona while standing in line waiting to order. They came over and talked with us after dinner while our kids played in the arcade. It was real interesting talking to them.
Since we had gotten up early, we decided on an early night.
No lime green ribbons today.
