A Not Very Much Doing Type of Day

I woke at 5am!! Why?? And sat reading a book on the balcony to the sound of the waves lapping on the beach.

I had a bit of a shock mid-sentence when the lights on the balconies went out! I just sat there for a while in the darkness then decided to wake everyone else up! :teeth:

Gianni & I went for a walk along the beach – we were out for about an hour and a half. I had a wonderful time running and jumping about :teeth: Gianni can be a right pain but when you’re on your own with him he is really lovely and loveable – anyone elses kids like this? He did moan for a bit on the way back that his legs were aching (I didn’t like to admit that mine were too :rolleyes1 ) doesn’t he realize that I’m trying to build up his stamina for Disney?!

We arrived back in the hotel room just in time for the grand viewing of Gabs’ ‘great left toe’ minus nail :faint: Applied some antibiotic cream and a band-aid.

We eventually made it out of the room and into the car for our 1st ever visit to Wal Mart!!! Gianni bought a GameBoy and games. I bought a hairdryer and straighteners :) I was going to TRY to have straightish hair LOL

We also bought some extra wide, sport, water-proof band-aids for Gabs. I didn’t realize what a great selection there is available there – I really could have gone mad buying band aids, Enz had to drag me away LOL

We found a Perkins for brunch. Gianni had a cheeseburger (well we are on holiday) Gabs had choc chip pancakes, Enz had eggs, sausages, potatoes & French toast & I had 2 steamed eggs (our server said they are better than poached – looked the same to me) & toast.

We found a payphone outside & decided to call the mums with the phone card bought this morning. What a palaver! I kept getting a message saying that the call I was trying to make was invalid with this card! So, back to WalMart. Got a refund and bought a different card. Same problem! I was getting really hot and bothered by this point and could feel the sun burning my calves while I was standing there! I called the helpline number on the back of the card – turns out that with the Wal Mart card you have to knock the ‘00’ off the ‘0044’ number! Aargh!!

After all that my mum & dad were out so I left a message on the answer phone.

Conversation with M-I-L went something like this:

Me: Hi, it’s Angie.

M-I-L: Where are you?

Me: At the seaside

M-I-L: No. Where are you?

Me: (in my head – outside the Wal Mart across the way from Target – know it?) out loud – huh??

M-I-L: are you where the hurricanes are?

Before we left for Florida M-I-L said to us both on quite a few occasions words to the effect of “keep away from the rain and the wind. If you know it’s coming get in the car and drive away from it” Enz kept trying to explain a few times that we wouldn’t be able to drive faster than the ‘winds’. Bless. She does panic.

Anyway, on with our day! Gabs & I dropped the boys back at the hotel and nipped into a Publix up the road to get some fruit salads – I was surprised that Wal Mart only had snacky food – am assuming it was a ‘smaller’ store?)

We spent a few pleasant hours on the beach. I lazed in the hammocks for a while, had a romantic walk with Enz and then the piece de resistance – watching the sun set. It was such a clear sky and it was an amazing sight. Loads of people just seemed to be drawn to it. I have to say this made me feel quite emotional and tearful.

We walked to play mini-golf this evening – it was cheap and very boring (‘you get what you pay’ for comes to mind).

We ate at the IHOP next door to the golf. Enz & I had grilled chicken & salad. Gianni had pancakes (I know I know, he got his meals back to front today ;) ) & Gabs had cheese omelette & pancakes.

I can’t remember what the bill came to but our server was very chatty. She was of Sicilian descent and we got to hear her family history. Naturally, we left a tip. When we left Gabs’ comment was “did you tip her extra for her life story?” from the mouths of babes!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

I had cheese omlette and pancakes at IHOP as well - but adult size (toooooooo huge!). My boys created great amusement when DS(11) asked for "cheese omlette and pancakes without the omlette please" and DS(5) wanted the same! Took some time to get used to the idea that in USA they're cool with you asking for a combo that's not on the menu - they can never seem to work it out over here :rotfl2:
