Day 3- No Dining Plan, New to Us to Us and CL Treats! Updated 9.28.11 Captain's Grill

Hi- we are on our way!! Left at 7 am instead of 4:30 like we hoped. Right now we are about 10 miles away from South Carolina. We'll drive to Georgia and stop. I only had 4 hours sleep DH had 2!:scared1:

We packed snacks, drinks and sandwiches for the road! I have pics. We also just stopped at this place called Cook Out in North Carolina. It was fast food but so awesome! I had hush puppies and a pulled pork sandwhich. It was soo good. We plan on stopping here on the way home because I need pictures for you!:rotfl2:

I'm using my iPad to type this so I probably won't do a live update but did want you to know we are on our way.

Cook Out is really good. Try some of their milkshakes they are the best!!!!
Have a safe trip!!!

We had a great, great trip and are home. We got back on Wednesday night and were in Hurricane Irene prep mode Thursday and Friday. Then we were on lock down until Monday morning when we returned to work.

We were very lucky and our home was not damaged. I'm loading our pictures to our Photo Bucket account and will write our first review tomrrow.

Thank you for being patient and thanks again for reading!

We left home at about 7:30 am on Saturday, August 13th- me with 4 hours sleep- Beh with just 2! I was driving so I went to bed at 2:00 am! My grandmother is sick and recently placed in a nursing home. This added to the pre-trip stress and we were not able to pack until Friday night. She is a bit better and understands why she can't live alone anymore.

Anyhoo- On to the treats!

Grande "regular" coffee with half and half and sugar for Beh and and Splenda for me. I'm not a fan of Starbuck's "coffee", a bit bitter for my liking- but the jolt we needed to get the show on the road.

Coolers filled with some ham and cheese, salami and cheese, and Mickey Foodles which was cheese, apples and caramel in a Mickey shaped container. Loved it- I was so psyched when I stumbled across these at the super market the night before.

Water, Diet Coke, Black Cherry Fresca and Capri Sun Roaring Water.

Here we have champagne grapes. First time we tried them- I bought them because they were so cute. They were really tasty. Very sweet, no seeds and you could put a whole bunch in your mouth. I wonder if these were the types of grapes often fed to Roman and Greek royalty by a lowly servant wearing nothing more than the grape leaves as a uniform.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yummmy- here we have bananas, Resse's Peanut butter cups, Twix bars and Raisinets and my favorite- PopCorn Indiana Movie Theatre Popcorn. Also in this bag were some homemade dark chocolate chip cookies. No no my friends, I did not bake these. One of my folks at work gave them to me for our trip. She is very sweet and her cookies were buttery and a little crunchy.

Now back to the popcorn- I love- love -love pocorn. If Beh and the baby are not home or if I get home very late I will often have a bag of pocorn for dinner. I pop it in a pan on the stove with a bit of canola oil. Then of course I melt butter, add the butter, salt and Raisinets to the popcorn. This and a vat of Diet Coke with ice makes a mighty fine meal- never mind snack. PopCorn Indiana Movie Theatre Popcorn is fresh- salty, buttery and the only acceptable substitute to popping your own. I do buy microwave popcorn, its just not the same. Max and Ruby love popcorn. it's the only corn in thier diet so they love it. No chocolate for them.

We ate from our coolers through NJ, Deleware, Maryland and Virgina.

We stopped for dinner at a place called Cook-Out in South Carolina. It was terrific. I forgot to take pictures since it was pouring, the dogs were antzy and the Baby, was scared of the thunder... We stopped every three hours or so to strtch and give the pups a break. Overall they were very good in the car.

Cook Out is a fast food place so I was able to run in-

DS had an Oreo Cookie milkshake, onion rings and corn dog. He scarfed this down quickly and loved it all, especially, the milkshake.

Beh, had a grilled chicken sandwich and hot dog. The chicken was freshly grilled, juicy on a sweet, white roll. The hot dog was ok according to Beh.

I my friends had the winning dish, a North Carolina style chopped pork sandwich with cole slaw and the house special sauce- Texas Pete. The pork had to just fall of the bone. It was tender, juicy with a bit of souther tang. the cole-slaw was vinegar based which I, (as someone whose mayonaisse aversion was once so intense, I refused to make my husband a sandwhich or my son tuna,) appreciated and loved. The cabbage was sweet, cruncy and fresh and the sauce was a bit hot, tangy and a hint of sweet. My meal also came with hush puppies. These were fresh, moist and crunchy. The corn meal mixture was well seasoned and defintely included some onion powder, salt and maybe paprika. There was a bit of smokeyness to them. They were great!

We made it a mission to eat here on the way home. We did and I will have pictures for later.

This concludes day one of eats. Yummy treats from home, a new fast food experience and a great first day.

Next installment will include coak fired pizza from Fort Lauderdale. Stay tuned and thank you for reading!

Great start to your reviews! I wish I could take my fur babies with us to Disney World but I have 3 and there's no way we would all get there happy :lmao:

Joining! I can't believe you endured 15~18 hour drive to WDW. We did that 15 years ago and that was the first and last time. :scared1: On our way down, I think we were very excited so it was better than on our way back.

Anyways, will be waiting for your food review! I think once DS turns Disney Adult, we will be doing the same as you.

Great start! Beautiful family. We are trying La Hacienda for the 1st time next month so looking forward to that one the most. We stayed bc cl @ years ago and it was probably our best trip. hope you enjoyed it too. Diet coke is my coffee so our cooler (we drive from georgia) will have that too :)

We were gone for 12 days. It would have been really hard to leave them for that long. They really enjoyed thier stay at Best Friends, but were crazy with excitement upon our return!

We drove down to Fort Lauderdale first. Total drive time was about 24 hours. I, for some reason thought it would be fun to take the scenic route through Virginia to see the mountains and small towns. We abandoned that mission about halfway in to Virgina. We spent time with my brother and his family then huffed it to Disney- another 4 hours (or slightly less.) We take two weeks off from work when we drive. The dogs made driving the only option. I agree about the drive home. It seems to take forever!!!

Thank you! We really liked Beach Club. We had a great view and the Club staff was great. Diet Coke is so good. I try to have only one Diet Coke and one coffee a day. Also fountain Diet Coke is my absolute favorite and I require lots of ice!

Great start. Can't wait to read your reviews. And I love those Mickey Foodles things. I'm going to have to look for them for DNephew2.9. He has jsut gotten into Mickey's Clubhouse and Toodles. I think he would love these.

We are in California so we have to fly but I think a road trip to WDW would be fun! Just think of all the cool stuff you can bring! ;) Maybe that's why when we are at WDW we always take a few days and check out the "real" Florida.

Foccacia bread- crisp and chewy infused with rosemary and olive oil. It was addicting.

DSCF4827.jpg

Wings- with Garlic, olive oil, rosemary and carmelized onions. Crunchy, juicy and full of flavor. These were so good and different from your typical wings.

DSCF4830.jpg

Cheeze Pizza- Thin crust, sauce was slightly sweet-really terrific!

This was the star! Meatball and ricotta- Wow!!!Seasoned, juicy meatballs, crunchy crust- which I think is hard when you have heavy toppings. So good.

Coal Fired Pizza. This meal was outstanding- the company was better. We enjoyed the days we spent with my brother and family.

The foodles were really good and such a nice treat. We say we will skip Disney and see the "real" Florida all the time. Sonehow it just feels wrong to not go to Disney if we are in Florida!:rotfl2: Than kyou for reading.

I'm drooling over those wings and meatball pizza and it's after 10pm. I'll have hard time going to bed with empty stomach and picturing the wings and pizza!:lmao:

You packed awesome snacks for the road!:thumbsup2 The Anthony's food looks fantastic, great start to your report. Looking forward to more!:goodvibes

We begged my sister to take us back to Anthony's on our visit and just ran out of time! I love their pizza. Your picture is making my mouth water!

Love the mickey shaped snacks ... I totally need to find those!

Looking forward to the rest of the reviews!
