Marlton Mom’s Wilderness lodge trip 9/20 to 9/27/03

Me: Mom, version 40.3 and the conductor for this trip, 4 previous trips
DH: sleeper car, version 46.6, 3 previous trips
DS: caboose, version 4.10. First trip!

Day 3, Monday 9/22

Epcot in the morning starting with Spaceship Earth where one asks the question “How slow can you go?”. Next was Test track, DH’s favorite of the trip. Then onto Mission Space. Mom went first as we were doing the kid swap thing. Be sure to tell the first CM that you come upon and they will direct you from that point onwards. I loved MS and didn’t get sick at all but I did notice I was walking like I’d had a couple of high octane margaritas when I got off. DH didn’t like it at all as the G-force was not with him.

DS got to play in the MS playground area which was great because he needed to get off the proverbial leash for awhile and run around on his own. We just about walked on to all of these with little or no waiting. We went over to the Wonders of Life pavilion where we saw Cranium Command and had lunch and ice cream for 3 people for the low low price of about $27.00. Sigh…..

We decided to take the monorail back to the TTC so that DS could “ride up front”. DS and DH are big into the train thing so riding up front was a big thrill for them. From there we caught the ferry over to the MK and then the boat to the WL for the pool and a nap. We peeped under the bed and saw that the pygmies had already gone swimming since their tiny bathing suits were hung over the balcony railings. Mousekeepings vacuum cleaners pick them up every 30 minutes and transport them to the park of their choice so they were long gone.

Now lets talk about naps and children. If you have a long evening planed at the park and you don’t manage to get that nap in, at about 8 pm Satan’s gonna show up inside the body of your child. As we say in our house DS is 99% sweetness and 1% Satan. Wanna know how we got a child with the energy of Tigger to take a nap in the afternoon when we had a long night scheduled? OK here goes.

First you make the room as dark as possible with the curtains closed and no lights on. Then you allow for about 25 to 35 minutes of whining and fidgeting about how NOT tired they are and how they can’t possibly fall asleep. After about a ½ an hour of no lights and no TV you will eventually noticed that they have stopped fidgeting and are in fact asleep. It also helps to put them in the bed with the spouse that has the lowest energy and is currently unconscious thus rendering any whining ineffective.

Now the next trick is how to get them awake in time for you to leave for the evening. For that you are on your own because we always had trouble getting sleepy head back up again and in a happy mood. Usually food helps but feel free to talk about the children’s accommodations in the kennel if they are particularly crabby. I programmed the number on speed dial on my cell phone and made sure all crabby members of my party knew I wasn’t afraid to use it.

On Monday night we had dinner reservations at Cinderella’s Royal table. Even though it wasn’t a character meal we lucked out and had a photo op with Cindy sitting on her throne while we were waiting to be seated. After I took the picture of DS (who is almost 5 yrs old) with Cindy she unexpectedly reached down and kissed him on the cheek. DS was quite mortified with the kiss and gave her the dirtiest look I have ever seen, (and I’m his mother!) leaped off the throne and ran away while wiping off the yucky princess kiss. Cindy and I were laughing at the sight of this and I explained that it was probably because he had a girlfriend back home. Of course the first thing I did was call his girlfriend who is the same age as him and rat him out. She is a big fairy princess fan so she thought this was really neat and was laughing at the thought of him and the yucky princess kiss. She will be going down to WDW 1 week after us so I hope she gets to kiss a prince or two of her own.

Dinner at CRT was an event in and of it self. DH and I decided on the prime rib which is a particular favorite of mine and we had heard that it was good here. Imagine our shock when we were brought two pieces which were so tough they could not even be cut with the steak knife they gave you. I literally couldn’t cut mine it was so tough! We sent the meat back with the explanation that it was too tough but something got lost in the translation and the chef was told that it was not cooked right.

Two more pieces were brought out with the same problem. We sent them back and the chef came out and was rather irritated with us after being erroneously told AGAIN that these also were not cooked right. We explained that the problem was that the meat was too tough not cooked improperly. He was very tense but was trying hard to remain calm, leading us to believe that he knew he had a problem on his hands with the quality of the meat that was being served.

We opted for seafood choices which were just fine but we wound up blowing the whole evening waiting for a table and then finally getting a meal that we could eat. We were brought a complimentary appetizer on orders from the restaurant manager which we thought was very nice.

DS got to see part of the fire works show from his seat at the table which was perfect for him since he likes the colors but not the booming noise.

It was back to the WL where a check on the pygmies underneath the towering beds revealed a luau in progress complete with a very tacky fashion show. I spent most of that night trying to get to sleep with Don Ho’s song “Tiny Bubbles” running through my head.

THe nap part is oh so true....I am really enjoying your reports!!

I hope you are splitting the cost of the room with the pygmies.... They are always trying to get a free ride.

nap time sounds like fun for all!!

those pygmie luaus can get pretty rowdy...i'm surprised you were able to sleep at all! ;)

Wonderful trip report ~ Thanx for sharing.

I actually laughed out loud at your report! Thanks for the laugh! I have a DS4, so your trip reports are really hitting home!
