Day 2 : Heading for Orlando
Went across to the airport at 8.45am, passed the Virgin check in desks and the queue was WOW!!!!!!! So glad we used the Twilight check in. Had a short wait at security and then into departures. Hung around here and looked round all these shops including my alter egos favourite shop Harrods, unfortunately she hadnt given me her credit cards so I didnt purchase anything. Took monorail to the departure gate and caught the first glimpse of my plane. It was HUGE!!!!! I usually wonder how on earth planes manage to stay in the sky, I couldnt help but wonder how on earth this huge monster was going to get off the ground!!!
As usual we were one of the last to board the plane, we werent stopped for a security check which surprised me, they seemed to be searching every second or third persons hand luggage at the gate. Found our seats got out my new Harry Potter book and my polo mints and I was ready for take off. Flight was pretty uneventful, if we had any turbulence it was minimal because I cant remember it.
Had a choice of three meals, I had the pasta which was nice, Tricia had the chicken which she enjoyed and the other choice was beef. I spent most of the flight reading my book but for the last 3 hours I watched the sky map, sad I know but it was addictive. Does anyone who has watched Virgins sky map know why they have a pirate on it who is trying to reach an island? He was really annoying. Also we had the most beautiful raspberry flavour ice cream ice lolly I have ever had during the flight.
Landed at Orlando International approximately 3.30pm local time. Off the plane quite quickly and headed for immigration, took about 15 minutes before we got seen and then we collected our luggage and joined the queue at Customs. Handed over the Custom form and joined the queue for x-ray. With hand luggage and hold luggage all checked we gave our luggage away again and boarded the monorail. Once at the other building we joined another queue this time to have ourselves, our shoes and our hand luggage x-rayed. Why they wanted to x-ray the hand luggage that had just been x-rayed 10 minutes before again I do not know. I only had my hand luggage x-rayed once before getting on the plane but it was x-rayed twice to get into the country. Never had any of this last year at Sanford airport.
Collected luggage again and dragged it to Virgin desk (refused to pay for a trolley, in the UK you get them for free). Nice Virgin rep gave us welcome stuff and we headed outside to get our transfer. Mears man was very nice and Lilo and Stitch was playing on the bus. I got to see the last 10 minutes of it, this is the only bit of this film I had seen before. Also noticed that it wasnt Gareth Gates singing Suspicious Minds at the end. Bus left airport and after 2 stops at Downtown Disney hotels we were dropped off at the Caribbean Beach. I was shocked as we are always the last people off the bus and this time we werent.
Into Customs house and checked in by Joshua, might have been Josh but I prefer Joshua. Asked him if we could possibly have an upstairs room in Jamaica (didnt want a downstairs room incase creepy crawlies or snakes got in). Joshua said he would check the system and see what was available. He gave us Jamaica 4335 which was an upstairs room so we were happy. I chose Jamaica because I liked the colour of the building. I knew it wasnt close to the food court but a short walk doesnt bother us. Asked about our delivery from Goodings and Joshua goes out back to locate it. When he comes back he says it hasnt been delivered but to ask at Bell services to see if they have it. Joshua tells us all about the resort after I comment on how big it looks on the map. Have a chat about previous Disney trips then we go to Bells services to be taken to our room. Bell services dont have our Goodings order either. I can see steam starting to come out of Tricias ears!!! They suggest we phone front desk once we get to the room and they will put us through to Goodings (save us paying for the call). Nice driver (cant remember his name so Ill call him Dave) comes and tells us he will take us to our room. We step outside and I comment that it looks like it might rain, once we are in the van the sky opened and the rain bounced. The thunder and lightning didnt start until we reached the room. When we got to Jamaica Dave asked if we were okay getting out in the rain, we said we live in Scotland we are used to it, he laughed and told us which direction to go, he arrived a few minutes later with our luggage, we gave him a tip and he left. Got the camcorder out and filmed the room before we opened any bags as we figured this would be the only time we would ever see the room untouched.
Tricia phoned front desk and they put her through to Goodings, managed to speak with the person who took the payment when we called. Let the excuses begin. Firstly they said the delivery had been made. Tricia told them three different people from the Caribbean Beach had looked for it and it wasnt there. She said she would try and find out what had happened and would call back. She did call back in 5 minutes and said she had been on holiday. She claimed that there had been a mistake with the credit card number when we had phoned to make payment (phone call to make payment was on June 26th , this was June 29th) so the order was cancelled. This being the same order that she was adamant had been delivered. If there had been a problem with the credit card number why hadnt she sent an e-mail? In the end up she said the order would be delivered to our room within an hour which it was, poor delivery man had to do 3 trips from his van in the bouncing rain. They didnt have one of the flavours of Gatorade we had ordered so they replaced it with Lemon and Lime and didnt charge us for it.
Unpacked and went to bed to watch TV. Woke up about 11.30pm and turned TV off. Plan for tomorrow is Typhoon Lagoon and MGM.
