Day 2 Sunday 9/21: the Crystal palace character breakfast.

DH and I Love the French toast at the Crystal place. It is the gold standard by which we judge all other French toasts. No one has been able to beat the palace in the French toast dept.. When reminiscing about the French toast, DH and I get that far away look in our eyes and drool all over ourselves. Not knowing that it was going to be a character hosted breakfast we made a bee line there first thing Sunday morning. We got in no problem and waited for our friendly waiter to take our drink orders so we could beat it over to the buffet line and indulge in the splendor that awaited. Agghhhhhhh, the characters are coming! the characters are coming! What should we do first? Toasts or hosts. It was no contest. The buffet line beckoned with it’s siren song. The sizzle of the bacon and the crispy crunch of the toast was too much to put off any longer, after all it had been too long since we had last indulged.

The characters made their way around the table and DH remarked to Tigger that if he was rich I was single. Tigger Loved this and became quite animated at the thought.. DH seem to be having second thoughts about this deal but Tigger was ready to run off with me. I was only concerned about my French Toast and would have neither of them in my way! When Eeyore made his way around one bewildered 2 year old totally freaked out and started screaming “What is it!!! What is it!!!!” over and over again until his Dad took him away. For the whole rest of the trip I would laugh thinking of poor Eeyore and that kid. “whaaaaat issss ittttt!!!!! Whaaaaaat issss ittttt!!!!”

After breakfast we rode the railroad all the way around and then to Frontier land. We hoofed it over to fantasy land where we split up, with DH and DS doing Dumbo and the carrousel and Mom doing the Haunted mansion. We had heard that Winnie the pooh can fill up fast so I got fast passes for that while DH and DS did Dumbo. I saw that they were admitting people to Philharmagic but it was only for season and annual pass holders so we, being lowly park hopper peons, would have to wait another day.

We did It’s a Small World where for some reason DS started with his “I’m afraid to go on these rides” whine. We had to listen to this every day, every ride for the rest on the trip and it got to the point where we really had to convince him to go on some of the most innocuous rides that Disney offered. I was sorely tempted to take him on Snow White’s Scary adventure so he would have something legitimate to complain about but the good Mommy in me triumphed over the bad and we only threatened to make him ride it when he got really out of hand and wouldn’t settle down.

For those of you with ornery children (and spouses) you’ll be pleased to know that the WL offers baby sitting services. This thought provoking threat works on most cranky 4 year olds but for those special moments of high tantrum you may also want to mention that they have on site kennels for the really BAD children.

Next was a quick swing through Tomorrow land where we mournfully discovered that the Carousel of Progress was in fact opened only seasonally and that this was not the season. This is mine and DH’s all time favorite ride. We love to sing the “Now is the time, now is the best time” song (“The Best Time of Your Life" ) and were dismayed when they changed the song back to “Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow”.

The weather was hot and humid with torturous bouts of sunshine so we went back to the WL for some pool time. Before we left for Disney World I purchased an inflatable pool ring at the dollar store which provided a weeks worth of entertainment at the pool.

Refreshed and hungry we were off to Epcot and dinner at the Rose and Crown in the United Kingdom. DS and I had the fish and chips and DH had the English Pie Sampler - chicken and leek, pork and cottage pies served with green beans. All meals were delicious, especially DH’s which I would like to try next time. DH remarked that “you usually get the snout and tails in those meat pies but all the meat in his was first rate”. I’d call that a resounding endorsement!

We stopped in at Canada, went potty in France and shopped for naught in Morocco. In Japan we decided to buy DS a pearl. I photo documented each step in the process from selection to final cleaning and we all thought this was made especially interesting by the CM’s efforts to explain each step along the way. DS really thought the whole deal was interesting and had his eyes glued on the oyster the whole time.

We saw the “American Adventure” show and I was especially impressed by the advanced state of the audio-animatronic robots in this show. I had been wondering what Disney would come up with next with their park entertainment attractions and I had erroneously thought that the audio-animatronics robots were at the end of their creative abilities. Boy was I wrong. I was blown away by the life like presentations of the characters in this show and the topper was when Will Rodgers was working his lasso! The speed of the lasso was dead on as was the range of movement that the robots exhibited. I think I read somewhere that they put sensors on the joints of real actors and use that data to replicate human movement. Can you imagine what Small World would be like if they used that technology in that ride! It might make up for that song…..

It was time for Illuminations and, as usual, I had the pleasure of obstructed viewing because DH and DS were wiped out and needed to find a place to sit. Since all the good spots were taken up an hour ago they sat on a wall in Japan and had a lovely view of Illuminations through the trees and people. I spent the first part of Illuminations looking for my favorite ride at WDW, “The ladies room” I love it because it’s air-conditioned and you get to sit down. Like most rides at WDW there is usually a line and the automatic toilet tends to flush at the most inopportune moments, sending you rocketing upwards at amazing speeds. Not to be outdone, the imagineers at Disney have developed a new ride at the WL which I call the “ever flushing toilet”. This is a toilet that only uses 1/3 of a gallon of water each time you flush but you must flush it 50 times to get it to clear.

After we finally made it back to the WL that night DS dropped a toy that rolled under the bed. It was then that we discovered a hi-rise pygmy apartment building under one of the beds. The pygmies were hard to understand but we did make out something about it being the location of the Disney vacation club for them. I called my husband on the cell phone and told him not to bother picking up the giant spatula from the Whispering Canyon Cafe as we wouldn’t be needing it. The pygmies had priority sleeping under the bed that night.

your trip report has me giggling...

Ey-yi-yi-----I'm dying here! Your sense of humor is awesome!

The ever flushing potties is what really got me laughing! Well, that and the "far off look in your eye" that you get when thinking about the French Toast at CP!

Can't wait to read more!

Great report!! My husband thinks I have gone crazy from laughing!! Too bad for Eeyore, I have read in several places that children were afraid of him!! Hope DS does ok, but he loves the Pooh movies.
