Hey!

So, my friend is interested in getting a job on the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes. Since we're both interested in working at Disneyland, he said, "Hey, I think we should both do it."

Alright, well, I have some questions, if anyone could answer:

1. Has anyone here ever worked on that ride? If so -- mind sharing experiences, stuff like that?

2. How do you even get that job? Are you just placed there? Do you 'apply'?

3. How does the whole thing...work? The routine, etc. (And the ride only runs till dusk -- what do you do after? Go home? Transfer to a different job?)

4. Is it a fun job, if you've worked it? Enjoyable? etc.

Anything else you wouldn't mind sharing, please do.

Thanks ahead of time if you answer. :)

1. No, but I knew some people who worked on it. (I worked POTC.) It's hard work, that's all I know. The only cast members who are permitted to roll their sleeves up really high. Always drenched in sweat and that stuff from the Rivers of America that they call "water." (The river is set on fire twice every night, how clean can that water be?) Actually, I would have liked the job. A great way to get paid for working out and getting big guns.

2. When I applied they asked what position I would like, I said Attractions. Then they asked what area, they offered me NOCC, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, I chose NOCC. I was not given the choice of attraction, but knew it could be any attraction in New Orleans or Critter Country, which includes Pirates, Mansion, Splash, Pooh and Canoes to name some off the top of my head.

3. How the whole thing "works"? Don't know exactly what you mean. They first train you on how to stear the canoe, I know that, then they let you be the one in front. As for what to do after the ride closes, you either get off work or work a "split shift." That is, you work guest control for Fantasmic! After a few months on the job you would be given the chance to cross train on another attraction. This gives you more opportunities to work.

FYI: When hired to work attractions during the summer season, you spend your first 3 months working mostly Fantasmic!, parades or both. In my first 3 months I worked maybe 4 Pirates shifts. The rest were Fantasmic! shifts.

I dont have any answers for you, I just wanted to read what was going on. I too would love to work at DLR someday. More than likely I would end up in first aid (I am in nursing school), but I would love to be a tour guide or work in concierge (or however you spell it!!). I honestly dont think I could work in the shops, esp on Main St. After (and still am) working at the Disney Stores through the many holiday seasons, I think I will retire from retial and move onto something else Disney related!!
