Yesterday I went to try on dresses for the first time. Yes, I'm a little late doing this, as the wedding is 7 months away...but anyways, I booked an appointment at the David's Bridal where my mother lives, which is about an hour away from where I live. I also invited my FMIL to come with us, so I agreed to pick her up. She's about an hour away from me in a different direction. So total travel time to mom's is about 2 hours. :car: My aunt decided to join us too. :woohoo: We all had rearranged our schedules to do this, and I told them, I'm only going to try on dresses at one place, so I better get lucky. :rotfl:

We arrived about 15 minutes prior to the appointment, the store was packed. My heart was pounding as I was watching future brides emerge from the dressing rooms into the center of the store. Did I really have to stand up there too? :scared1: My sales assistant, Heather, was fabulous. She took me over to where I could find dresses in my size, and let us browse through all the dresses. She suggested I try on 2 or 3 different sizes, just to get a feel for what feels comfortable. With the help of my aunt Donna, and FMIL, they started pulling dresses out and asked "yes or no". My mother just stood there in awe and kept saying "gosh, they're all beautiful"! I picked out of total of about 9 dresses. How was I going to choose from 9 dresses I really liked?? :confused3

Heather brought me a slip and a very scary looking strapless undergarment, which FMIL dubbed "a torture device". :rotfl: We had a horrible time with that torture device. I have a very large chest, and asked her to bring me a DD cup. Well, that turned out to be too big. So she brought a D, and I could put my fists inside those suckers! Finally she said "you must be a C". I was like WHAT? :lmao: I haven't been a C since high school, but I like what size I am in the bridal world. :)

Aunt Donna helped me put on dress #1. The dressing rooms were very tiny IMO, especially for the size of some of these dresses. We started with the dress in the smaller size, it was one of my favorites, so over my head it goes and gets zipped up and it fits!! I'm thanking the big man now, that the dress does not have to be in the largest size. I walk out, hear the ooohhh's and aaaaahhh's from mom and FMIL and Heather, I step up to the center of the store, turn to face them and BOOM!!! The lights go out, alarms start to sound, sales assistants are running, a baby starts crying...what happens then? You see a camera flash, and there is my mother, trying to take my picture in the dark. :rotfl2:

The lights begin flicker, the manager is telling everyone to get dressed and proceed to the front of the store. We still don't know what's happening yet. BOOM! Another loud noise, lights go out again. Were we being attacked? What was going on? We hear fire trucks. I'm in the dark, trying to maneuver out of the gown, slip, and torture device as quick as I can. People in the store were streaming out the door. The manager comes over to help us out. I'm standing there half naked, my heart pounding, we still don't know whats happening. Then, one of the girls comes back in and says "The transformer behind the building caught on fire. The fire trucks are here, and we may not have power for hours." I cry out "but I have only tried on one dress!":sad2:

FMIL talked to the manager, explained how we had driven far and rearranged our schedules. And since the store had cleared out and we were the only ones there, the manager agreed to let us continue to shop. The sales assistants gathered flash lights. I tried on dress after dress in the dark. The only light other than flash lights, was the light at the very front of the store. With the help of the ladies at David's Bridal and my aunt Donna, I was able to take my time and I found "the one". :cloud9: I'd post a picture, but none of them turned out. :sad1: Its discontinued, so its not even on their website anymore. I had planned on paying for the dress, but my mom insisted. She even picked out a tiara and paid for that too. :goodvibes

I want to give kudos to the staff at David's for letting me take my time and helping me choose my dress. I've heard so many stories about places being pushy, and having rude sales assistants. My experience with them was absolutely wonderful. They really made me feel comfortable. And I was so glad that they continued to help us in the dark, when they could have easily showed us the door and closed shop for the day.

:lmao: I am so glad that things turned out ok for you but that is hilarious! And honey, if you found your dress in the dark it must be THE ONE!

Michelle, that is too funny. :rotfl: That's great that they worked with you and I agree with PrettyInPink, if you found "the one" in the dark, it must be the perfect dress for you. Congratulations!! :goodvibes

You tell such a good story-- that was hilarious. Especially thinking about you running to the front of the store half naked to get out... i could just see myself doing that at Davids. I'm so glad you found the right dress though-- and that really was so nice of them. If it looks great on in the dark, imagine how beautiful it will look at the alter!

It truly was a good laugh! :rotfl: I just keep thinking of the moment when the lights went out and my mom continued to take the picture. I don't even think she realized the lights went out! :rotfl2:

I was able to cut a photo of "the one" and here's the best pic I was able to get of it. I just love this dress. :cloud9: Can't believe I picked it out in the dark!

Oh my gosh!! At least you have a great funny story to tell about finding your dress! Congrats on finding "the one"! :)

that was truely the best dres story Ive ever heard

Im glad it all worked out & the dress is lovely

We had a transformer in the corner of my back yard blow & it sound like a bomb going off....they are super loud!!

What a great memory to document,,,,& i almost feel off my chair when you said everyone was running around in hysterics & theres your mom...snapping away:lmao: CLASSIC:rotfl:

LOL. I can't believe they made everyone take off the dresses and get changed before they left the store. I'm glad it wasn't more serious, where you had to get out of the building quick for safety sake!

On the other hand, thumbs up for them for allowing you to stay and pick out your dress in the dark! That is a memory you will keep forever!

What a great story!!!! That is story that will be fun to share for a long time. So happy you found your dress!:goodvibes  :yay: :cheer2:
