David Goldman and his son Sean on Dateline tonight

The show was well worth watching. What the boy's mother's family put the boy through! It was quite an education to see how political this legal fight became.

Thank goodness the father and son were reunited.

I would never have been able to watch the history of this case again without now knowing that father and son are together now. Knowing that they are, it was difficult enough...seeing what David Goldman went through for those 5 years, right until the very end (and possibly continuing with those horrid Brazilian relatives) was heartbreaking.

ITA!! Those Brazilian relatives should be shot for what they did to that little boy, especially at the end! With the parental alienation and that final disgusting move with the press...they showed their true colors! :confused3

It is nice to see him back in Joisey and happy with his dad. With time and lots of love and a good therapist he will have a great life!

I was wondering if the boy has dual citizenship since his mother was Brazilian. It's so sad that she passed away, I would think that would have more of an emotional impact on him than anything else. I hope he will be able to continue a relationship with her family so he will be able to remember her.

...darn, I missed it! We were celebrating my DH's birthday this evening...

Not for nothing...but if she hadn't passed away David wouldn't have his son home with him today! Knowing the type of man David is, he would never let their son forget his mother. He puts his son's emtional well being first.

I'm watching this now and it is amazing. I can't believe what his 'family' on his mother's side did to him. Who in their right mind would march him through the street like that??? They didn't even drive him! :sad2:

Thank you for posting about this, Mary Ann. I didn't know it was going to be aired tonight.

Poor Sean. He has been through so much already in his young life. I can understand why he seems somewhat detached. I hope he is able to grow up happy and healthy in every way.

It's obvious how David and his family love him. That should help a lot.

What a tearjerker. I would have had a very hard time watching if I didn't already know the outcome.

I just don't get how his mother & her family wanted to eraticate David from Sean's life. Why not let them talk on the phone, why not let David visit them in Brazil. :confused3Those people were either so "full" of themselves or completely off their rockers....

Did you see their family "compound"? They had ARMED guards patroling the grounds. Is Brazil that unsafe or were they so fearful of David???

So so glad Sean is back home.

That's true. There would have been a very different outcome had she not died...he would not have his son (and I'm glad he does!); sad, but true.

As a former New Jerseyite, I thought it was somewhat amusing how the ex-wife was screaming on the phone how much she didn't want to live in NJ. That seemed to be a huge issue. My DH kind of feels that way about NJ too. ;)

Well living in NJ, I can understand the harsh feelings!! :rotfl:

I thought they wanted to keep David out because they were afraid Sean would want to be with him. I was wondering about the compound too. I was thinking they made the fortress so Sean wouldn't be kidnapped (for lack of a better word) like how he came to them.

A friend of mine lived in Sao Paulo several years ago and was married to a very wealthy Brazilian. They owned the top two floors of an apartment building, penthouse pool, live-in maid, etc. She had a diamond wedding ring that could choke a horse :lmao: but she told me she NEVER wore it. It stayed in the safe. In fact, she never wore any jewelry that didn't scream "costume" because the odds of a violent robbery were too high. She got used to the violence and crime, but said they were very careful. I do believe they used guards at times. From all appearances, Sean's stepfamily was extremely wealthy. No doubt armed guards are the order of the day for them in Brazil.

Wait...you mean they didn't all live together in Grandma's little apartment? Goshdarnit, I *never* would have believed *that* :rolleyes1 ...

agnes!

I was so happy to see that he finally got is son back. Those people who tried to keep David away from his son all of these years are evil. It's good that Sean is finally where he belongs and will finally know that his father has been trying to get him back all of these years. It's wonderful to watch a happy ending.

The program was very heartwarming. I'm so happy that David has Sean back with him.

Did the show cover why the mother didn't want Sean to go back to his dad? Was she just nuts? The fact they lived in New Jersey is hardly a plausible reason for not wanting the dad to have his son.

She never accused David of anything, and even stated on a recorded phone conversation that he was a wonderful father. But she did do an awful lot of yelling about not wanting to live in NJ..."that place"! I think she just wasn't happy there, and wanted to go back to Brazil, and not be sending Sean off for visits in the U.S. Or perhaps worried that David would attempt to keep Sean in the U.S. if he went back.
