Davenport Iowan looking for a cheaper flight--Rockford, Ohare, Midway, Cedar Rapids?

Thank you. AirTran is my favorite, but it appears the Friday flights never are on sale. I was considering flying from Peoria on Allegiant but it flies into Sanford. I have not heard much about the time it takes from Sanford to Disney. But by the time I spend the extra money for town car transportation, I might as well have paid the extra to MCO on Friday.
Thanks again!!!!

We live in Mount Pleasant and I would dearly love to fly from Moline, but we have to fly out on a Saturday and AirTran never seems to have sales on Saturday/Sunday fares. If I could get a Saturday fare for $200 I would do it, but the cheapest I've seen is $260. There are 8 of us and that makes it worth it to fly from Chicago.

Flying out of Rockford or Peoria, a thing to realize is that if you're renting a car at Sanford, the rental car rates are double the cost at MCO. That will eat into your savings. Anyway, waiting on a great airfare December 3 - December 11. Go Southwest Go

We usually fly out of Moline on Saturdays to MCO on Airtran. Are you watching the Airtran sales? I don't know what month they are up to, but believe me December will be included. The only problem is the weekend before and after Xmas that they usually have blacked out for special fares. You have to be patient and not buy too early. I know that's hard. My first time with Airtran we booked right after 9/11 for that November and I got $52 each way. Now they are sometimes $79 each way then discount 5% if booked online. Of course then you have to add those security fees, etc. And this trip we are using the Magical Express transportation. we have rented a car before, but we'll try and save a little money this time. I would pay more money to not have to drive to another city to fly-especially on the way home!

I got an email from airtran today for sale fares moline to mco for $79 one way thru november 8. So all you december travellers, you're next!

Have you seen Airtran specials that include Saturday/Sunday flights recently? The emails I've been getting (including the one I read this AM) listed to Floriday Monday through Wednesday and from Floriday Tuesday through Thursday. We have to fly on Saturday/Sunday and I've not seen a special for the weekend since last year. Is there a different special I'm not seeing?

I have been watching for several months now. Fridays and Sundays are always excluded from the sale prices on AirTran. Saturday flights with Air Tran do go on sale. Please let me know if I am incorrect, but that appears to be the history.

I know that in DSM Alligient Air flies direct and were running specials for less than $200.

hmmm, not sure of that. We got tickets for Saturday leaving Moline and coming back on a monday, only because I wanted to do the non-stop flight. Our tickets were less that $200 a piece total. I just looked them up now and they are $325 without all the security fees, etc! That's for next month! Ouch!

I'll jump in and wave HI! at everyone.

I'm near DSM now but lived in Iowa City for many years. Cedar Rapids is never cheaper than Moline, especially heading east. Allegiant flies out of DSM and Peoria into SAnford, I am hoping they are still flying next spring when it's our turn to go. Renting a car for a week is the same cost as roundtrip towncar service to WDW, about $200. I haven't seen cheap cheap fares into MCO, so even with the cost of renting a car it's cheaper for us to use Allegiant.

Based on what I've seen for fares, I can fly from Moline for $275/person, or Chicago for probably $140/person on Southwest. For 8 people, that's a bunch of money. Rockford or Peoria is an option, but I'm leary of charter companies like TMA and Allegiant because there's only one flight/day. If that flight is cancelled, you lose a day's vacation.

I'm in Waterloo, flying out on Northwest in October. However, Allegient Air has started CHEAP flights to Orlando (around $69 on way) out of Des Moines. I'm sure Cedar Rapids will soon follow. Same company that is doing the cheap flights to Vegas.

I'm glad I found this thread! We live in Muscatine, but we've been all over Iowa. My DH is a Fareway man. Anyway, we are hoping for a flight out of Moline. We are going November 28 through December 5. This is a Monday to a Monday. Does anyone know are these bad days to fly? I've never had so much trouble finding cheap airfare before.

I'm flexible in my dates, by a day or two, but I don't want to fly out on Sunday. Any suggestions?

Airtran flys out of Moline. Hopefully, SOON, they will be releasing sale flights into December. I believe they offer the sales on Monday. Sign up for the Airtran emails and they will notify you when sales come available. Good luck.

I'm flying back to Moline on a Monday thru Airtan. Got the Moline-Orlando non-stop too (although they will be cutting those back after August-maybe they will come back for the holidays?) We usually fly out on a Saturday and I have always gotten sale fares for all my flights. The exception might be in your case with the Thanksgiving holiday. Isn't that right after Thanksgiving? You will find a lot of "blackout" dates before and after a holiday where there are no sale fares. That happened to me on a Saturday December 27. Had to fly Northwest because it was the cheapest. Never fly them again!

check out the fare out of ohare on travelocity- I think it is 79 RT(plus tax)

Just got a great rate. United - Ohare to Orlando... 92.90pp. Leaving 8/24 @9:30a and return 8/29 @3:30p. Just booked today. :flower:

I checked O'Hare and we like to fly out early in the morning at get there around one. So, for that flight I found for $178 out of O'Hare. But, after coming home from Chicago a couple weeks ago, I'd rather not have to deal with the traffic of Chicago, especially coming home. Maybe it was the 3 hours it took us to get from the airport to Aurora because of road construction. But, right now, the thought of Chicago doesn't sound fun.

Be patient. Avoid the Chicago traffic. I have a good feeling AirTran will open up December in the next week or two. I have been carefully watching all the sales and December just has to be next. I hope!!!! :hourglass
