I did a modified DR and everyone on LLNOE.com will tell you not to do that but it did work for me.

But I belong to LLNOE and I still go there for tips and encouragment. I just don't talk about where I deviate from the plan. Though I was a lot closer to the plan at the beginning.

I also go to LLNOE, I recently made the mistake of saying that there are other financial authors that have valid advice...let's just say I won't be doing that again over there!!

Yeah, I made the mistake of saying that I was not giving up my rewards card and that I used it to make reservations and what not and that DR was smart but he wasn't the be-all and end-all of finace.

Holey cow, not only did I get a ton of replies but the MODERATOR sent me a pm saying that since it was a DR site (not like an official DR site you have to pay for that one, but it was a site dedicated to following the plan) I needed to stick with the plan and not advise against it.

I thought about being mad but I decided that it was thier site and I really do like it, so now I don't talk against the plan, well I do but not flat out saying it's wrong, I just say that I do what I need to do. I just discuss the things I do that is within the plan.

I also do a modified DR plan. I use a credit card for the rewards. (We don't keep a balance.) And while I believe him when he says debit cards offer protection similar to credit cards, I don't want to find out I'm a fraud victim by finding my checking/savings accounts balances at zero.

I also keep a much larger cash cushion than Dave suggests. I have enough to pay off our mortgage, in addition to a big emergency fund, but I can't bring myself to write that payoff check. Must be because every time I thought I could do it, DH came home saying his company was being acquired or he was sick of his job.
