Dave Barry on Walt Disney World - very funny

:rotfl: Haha so funny! I had read this before but not for years - I had forgotten about it. Thank you for posting!
I'm trying to decide what I find more appealing - The Dull Suburban Residential Community of Sometime Next Month, or SPONGE ENCOUNTER!

I remember reading it before too, but it is still very funny! My favorite line is:
"Epcot also features pavilions built by various foreign nations, where you can experience an extremely realistic simulation of what life in these nations would be like if they consisted almost entirely of restaurants and souvenir stores."

That's hilarious! :rotfl2:

But I do have to wonder..... I've been trying for several years to get my mom to go to WDW with me......she won't.......she's a BIG Dave Barry fan......I can't help but wonder....is there a connection? :confused3

My favorite, too...although it made me snort my pop. ewww

Since you said it was a very old article,I was finding myself laughing at his made-up stuff that now exists:

Pleasure Island
Dave World would also have an attraction called "ParentLand," which would
have sign outside that said: "Sorry, Kids! This attraction is for Mom 'n'
Dad only!" Inside would be a bar.

Dino-dig
For younger children, there would be
"Soil Fantasy," a themed play area consisting of dirt or as a special
"rainy-day" bonus, mud.

LOL. thanks for sharing :thumbsup2

Moo

LOL especially at the "Epcot also features pavilions built by various foreign nations, where you can experience an extremely realistic simulation of what life in these nations would be like if they consisted almost entirely of restaurants and souvenir stores "

Gotta love it... everyone at work just looked at me when i churtled (sp) at this..

If you like Dave's humor, you should get the book that this came from - "only travel guide you'll ever need", which I think is one of his best. What I love about Dave Barry is that most of the time he has me LOL, but sometimes he says something so profound it makes you realize what an intelligent person he really is. And sometimes, he has you in tears. Anyone read "Does Japan"?

Of course, Dave also co-authored the new Peter Pan books.

I think my favourite line was:

"'Never go through the aorta after eating German food,' that is my new travel motto."

He also made me want to get to Gatorland to hit hungover alligators with fish.

Thanks for sharing! I especially loved the line about EPCOT countries too!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Now how many of us are going to go to MK and silently think to ourselves, "MOO!"????

That was, by far, the funniest thing I've read in a while. :lmao:

Thanks so much for sharing.

Dave Barry is undoubtedly one of the funniest writers of our time. He has an incite to things that I just plain marvel at. What a different way of looking at things.

Do yourselves a favor and read as many Dave Barry books as you can. They are the best. The section shown in this thread is from Dave Barry's Travel Guide, "The only Travel Guide you'll ever need". Great stuff. Another wildly funny one is "Dave Barry Slept Here". His unique take on American History looked at from an angle that will completely surprise and amaze you. The more you know about history the funnier it gets.

I had the pleasure of meeting him in Vegas a couple of years ago and he is a great, down to earth guy.

:rotfl2:

I love "Babies and Other Hazards of Sex: How to Make a Tiny Person in Only 9 Months, with Tools You Probably Have around the Home ".

I make sure to include it as a shower gift for all first time parents.
