Hello Everyone. Welcome to my planning report. As you'll note from the title, I know very little about my wedding but I am eager to start a planning report anyhow because I am so very excited. First...a little about us.

How we met:
Dave and I met about 10 years ago. We were with other people at the time and all of us became friends. When our other relationships fell apart we lost contact. We ran into each other at a party a year later and saw each other in a new light. It was quick and intense but ultimately bad timing. But two years later, out of the blue, he found me on a dating website and we started talking again. Things got serious really fast and within a couple months we were both sure we'd finally found the one. We booked our trip to WDW within three months. We work so well together that right now we are waiting to hear back about a job innkeeping together.

The Proposal:
So, just days after our 6 month anniversary and only a couple days before Valentines day we flew to WDW. This was his very first trip to WDW and I was anxious to see if Disney would be as magical for him as it has been for me since I was a little girl. He totally fell in love with the Magic Kingdom. We acted like kids all day. I did things that I hadn't done since I was little like get pictures with characters. When we went to get our matching ears monagramed, the CM gave us "Happily Ever After" buttons and Dave was very excited by this. Another CM asked if we'd gotten married. At this point I was just so happy that nothing could have surpassed the way i was feeling. i told the CM, "No, we're just happy." At the end of the night we found a cramped little spot to the right of the castle and wedged ourselves in to watch Wishes. When Jiminy says "sometimes your wishes are granted in the most unexpected ways" Dave squeezed my arm and I got all teary. At the end of the fireworks I looked at Dave and he had this bizare grin on his face. I hugged him a couple times and he looked like he wanted to say something. Now keep in mind we were right next to the speakers that were still blaring the end of Wishes music. I looked at him and he said "Will you marry me?" Of course, that's what I thought he said. In my head I'm thinking. "oh my god, did he just ask me to marry him, I couldn't hear him!" But I decided that instead of ruining the moment by asking him to repeat the question I just hugged him and said yes into his ear, then started to cry. Later he told me he never actually heard the "yes" either =P He also told me later that he had been planning to ask me for months, but wanted to do it on Valentines day. But the excitement and magic of the Magic Kingdom had gotten to him and he couldn't wait!

Knowing that I am particular about my jewelry he didn't get me a ring but after being asked by innumerable CM's about the ring(because of our "Just Engaged" buttons) we went into a store at DHS and bought a mickey ring with a Swarovski crystal and hearts around it. I love my ring. Though I must admit I'm looking forward to seeing some sparkle on my finger soon. It turns out that Dave is in love with Disney. And though we are an unlikely pair, I beleive I am in love for the first time in my life.

So, we came back from Disney about two weeks ago and wedding planning is all I want to talk about. Unfortunately neither my mother nor my DF will speak to me about it because I am in the last push to graduate on May 1st. DF has flat-out refused to discuss it with me till I've graduated. I have two girlfriends who are willing to discuss things with me, but without a date or place there is nothing that can be decided. So far, we've decided that a Disney wedding is what we want, but sadly can't afford. My father is unable to travel for a wedding, so that's another factor. Another factor is the fact that the majority of our friends and family would not be able to afford the trip to WDW for our wedding either. So it looks like the plan is a wedding at home followed by a honeymoon in WDW and we will invite anyone to come with us because we really want our friends and family to come play at Disney with us. Dave also mentioned wanting his groomsmen to wear Mickey gloves and we did talk about a Disney themed wedding, so I've got a Black/White/Red Mickey theme flowring in my head.

I hope you all have enjoyed my inroduction and my few pictures. I'm looking forward to the planning process!

Congrats!!!! Can't wait to hear all of your plans!
Very cute engagement story!! And there are plenty of brides that are doing an at home Disney wedding on the boards. You'll get some great ideas! :goodvibes

:welcome: AND Congrats!! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear all of your plans!! We will definitely be here if you need to talk or throw some ideas around!!

Cute ring! I know what you mean about school. DF proposed to me when I had two weeks left of school. I was very distracted but managed to still study for finals and maintain my GPA, haha. It is difficult but you can do it! Just think, you only have three short months and then you can dedicate all your free time to wedding things. It will fly by! :cool1:

Can't wait to see all your plans!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Today I got DF to talk a little bit about the wedding. I mentioned that his HS buddy had posted on his Facebook wall that he was happy for us and wanted to know if he was invited to the wedding. He hasn't been close with him for years. So DF says, if we have a big wedding then sure he's invited. If we have a small wedding, then no. Blargh! I just wanna know. I have never been more eager for college to be over!

I've been reading some PJ's and am getting great ideas. Really like the idea of renewing our vows at Disney at the one year point. Very sad to learn the "Just Married" buttons are going. Now I wish I had pretended and picked some up while I was there last month!

Anyhow, I'm a bit worried about money. Even without a disney wedding it's still expensive and at the moment DF and I are in limbo. I work as an Innkeeper for an Inn that is closed for the winter. DF and i have offered to be the new live-in innkeepers but the owners have not give us the go ahead yet and are sorta stringing us along. So we are in a holding pattern. Patience is not a virtue that I have.

I have a dress I've fallen in love with on the David's Bridal page(which won't let me save the photo!). But it's white with a split front and a red insert panel down the middle. I'm a larger bride so my choices seem more limited. I hope to lose weight by the wedding but I'm not gonna count on that happening. Been trying to do that for years! But I've always wanted some color on my wedding dress. I've actually thought about doing opposites with my bridesmaids and making them wear white while I wear red, or some other crazy color like turquoise(my fave).

Thanks for all the great ideas you guys. I am loving reading your PJ's!

Awwww congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! I love your story, and am very impartial to Magic Kingdom proposals. :)

I think there's a decent amount of us still in school, and I think we're ALL going a bit crazy!!! But we can do it, and I can't wait to hear more about your plans. :)

Thanks! I am having a really hard time concentrating. But at 31 I seriously doubt there is anything that is going to stop me from getting this degree...FINALLY! hehe. Sadly I have one more class to finish by August and then hopefully just a few months off before Grad school next winter. I'm just a busy girl!

Congratulations and welcome to the pj board! Your story is beautiful and I am so happy for you two to be able to find each other! Can't wait to read more!

A little about rings. I have this vision board collage I created two years ago. And it had THE RING on it. Now the price is way out of range but I've been wanting to use my great grandmothers engagement ring diamonds in it. I don't know if they will fit but it's one large round with two very small side stones. Here is the ring.
retro_w_detail.jpg

I hope that I can get the price down but supplying three of the stones but 6 more little guys are needed and coming down from $4000 is still a big number. Not to mention the stones may not fit.

Here is another option. A Solitaire that has a matching band. I prefer not to have the diamond sticking up so much though. I havn't found any other designs even similar to the first ring :sad1:

Has anyone else tried resetting another ring?

My DF continually suprises me. Today when we were having a little wedding talk he told me he wants a very traditional wedding. And when I told him a friend(my MOH) was having a party next weekend he asked if it was an engagement party and seemed very disapointed when I told him it wasn't. My man is an old fashioned sort of guy. Swoon :lovestruc

Hey!

Loving all your ideas so far... I know what you mean about not being able to talk about it! Now... I have finished University (College) and still only have a few people to talk to about 'The Wedding' Dont you feel like its all you want to talk about?! LOL we all have to remember that its not just about the wedding! :rotfl2: There wouldnt be a wedding without the DFs!

Loving the Disney memories! I want one!!! hehe

Cant wait to hear more! :)

Good luck with school! Stay focused!

xx:thumbsup2

Thanks for staying tuned everyone. I'm taking a snow day today, hopefully the last. It seems to be melting already thank goodness. And I'm working on homework. Lots of crazy stuff going on with school and the wedding urgency has gone down a little for me, especially since right now I'm pretty broke and can't imagine spending thousands of dollars on a wedding. But that will soon change. It looks like we are getting the go-ahead from my bosses and DF and i will be the new Innkeepers at the B&B where I work. YAY. So there will be moving soon in our future. Though we are only getting one room so most of our stuff will be staying at our families houses durring this time. It will sort of be like long term house sitting at the house where you happen to work =P

So lots of changes going on. Moving, job changes, graduating, engagement, wedding. I couldn't be happier about it all. It's about damn time!

So DF still won't talk about weddings much with me. We did kick around a Swing/Rockabilly band and theme. We still have no idea when or where. I hate to say it but an Escape Disney wedding sounds really good right now, just him and me on the Poly beach. But that would piss off the fam and I'm pretty sure later I would regret not having them there.

So, I thought I would show you all my before ring. This ring was my great grandmothers. I had ideas to get a new ring, did some research, but I've been wanting to get this ring reset for a long time, so I think resetting this in white gold, in the same setting, or as close as I can get, is the way to go. Right now it's in gold and has a sizer on the back which doesn't work quite right.

Well I guess that's it for now. Still in a holding pattern on the wedding planning. Boo.

So I sent in my last packet for school last night. I still have some edits to do when it comes back to me. But all the hard work is done. So that means, I got to talk about the WEDDING!!!! DF and I went to dinner tonight and got to discuss the when and where. We decided on the end of September 2012 and we chose Merry Spring Nature Center which is where we had our first date and ended up spending lots of time there last summer. Here is the link to their website. http://www.merryspring.org/

They have an indoor area in case of rain, but I think it might be too small for us so I'm thinking tent. I'm also thinking that might be too expensive but we'll check it out. We've got plenty of time.

So anyone want to guess why I chose the end of September for our wedding? hehe. It's so we can take our honeymoon durring Food and Wine Festival and catch Mickey's Not So Scary! I've never been this time of year. Very excited!

So about a month ago we got my real engagement ring. I had my great grandmothers stone taken out of the gold ring I posted earlier. I adore it. I'm getting used to wearing such a big ring! i usually don't wear rings that much because I always am cooking or washing dishes at the Inn I work at. DF and i moved into the Norumbega Inn to be the Innkeepers directly after we got back from my college graduation. We are adjusting to living and working together. It's tough but I think we'll find a balance.

Right now I've been thinking about going dress shopping this summer. I was going to wait since the wedding is so far off but, I feel i can't make any more plans about the style of the wedding till i have the style of the dress. As a big girl I have a feeling my style options will be limited so I don't think I'll be able to match the dress to the wedding. It will probably be matching the wedding to the dress.

There is an indoor space at Merry Spring that I havn't seen yet, so I have to take that into account too. It;s going to be early to mid September so the indoor space may be needed, not to mention the possibility of rain. And i really don't have the money to spend on a tent. Their indoor capacity is 50. I think we'll be able to handle that.

My goal for our wedding is to spend as little as possible, make it as classy as I can, and save as much as possible for the honeymoon because we are going durring Food and Wine and MNSSHP. I'm so excited! I've never been to either. Actually the only times I've been to Disney is February and December. If we have enough money left over I'd really like to tour Florida since I want to convince DF to move there at some point.

Well that's it for now. It's not crazy to go dress shopping 16 months before the wedding is it?

Hey!

Its been a while since I checked in! Glad things are coming on with you guys! :)

I have had a look on the merry spring website and it looks beautiful... the flowers will look great in all the pictures! :) Maybe what ever colour scheme you go for you could request your photos to be done near those coloured flowers!? hehe cheaper, than takeing them out of the ground! lol :hippie:

Any way... cant wait till you go dress shopping! Bring on the photos! I brought my dress nearly 2 years before! I put a deposit on it in October 2010 and were getting married May 22 2012! hehe

I also really love these shoes. I'd love to have this peacock color as one of my colors. Still not sure though.
