DD got a job working for a division of Technicolor in Montreal (she's a recent SCAD graduate), and we are beyond thrilled!!! She starts work December 6, and we are going with her to move her in.

We will need a negative Covid test to get back into the US. DH is looking at locations, but the airport location is booked they charge $150. He said he found another test that can be done, but that is $300. EEK! Does anyone know of local center where we could have this done? It's our first time to Montreal.

Many thanks!!!

Oh, any other tips would be much appreciated! Merci!

Are you flying? You can get an antigen test rather than the more expensive PCR tests to go back to the USA if you are flying. No test required if you are driving to the USA.

Montreal is starting to have some less expensive Antigen tests in pharmacies. Some places have them for $99 but I believe there are others who are less. Some are the local pharmacies. There are some members of Dis who live in Montreal who may be able to better direct you on that.

https://www.gotestrapide.com/collections/drive-thru has anitgen for $75

The US is much easier to find cheap/free tests than Canada unfortunately.

Congratulations to your daughter! If she's not used to winter, make sure she gets a warm coat, mittens keep you warmer than gloves, a hat and warm, waterproof, boots.

You can use the antigen tests to get back in the US. Look and see if any pharmacies in the area offer those. I’m not sure about Quebec but it’s easy to get the antigen tests in Ontario for about $20-30 a person.

How long are you going to be in Canada? If your turnaround time is 24-48 hours, any rapid test that you take in the US (let's say the day before your departure from the States) would still be valid for your return to the States. If you absolutely need a test, then you are looking at paying between $75-$100 for a rapid antigen test in Quebec... which unlike Ontario has not embraced the "cheap rapid testing in pharmacy" trend. Laboratoires Biron has non-airport clinic locations in Montreal, as well as Elna Medical for $99. Gotestrapide mentioned above is another reliable solution

Thank you all for the replies! This explains why the tests seem so highly priced.

We don't have our travel dates yet because the company is booking the air fare this weekend. We might be able to use our departure test if we're gone for less than 3 days, we just don't know yet.

We're originally from NJ (we've only been in FL for 2 years), so we're used to winter....but maybe not Montreal winter!!! She does have a pair of insulated waterproof boots that go down to 0 degrees, but like most kids she eschews winter coats. I know that will change the minute she steps off the plane!!! She has hats, gloves, etc.

Yeah kids here don’t argue about wearing winter coats (usually). When it hits -30 (Celsius) all you care about is how warm it is.
