Hello All! I have been doing some research on lowering blood pressure and cholesterol naturally because I am not at all a fan of taking a daily pill. I have run across the DASH diet numerous times and just bought a book about it. Has anyone tried it? If so what are your thoughts/suggestions? Any recommended recipes?

I don't know about the DASH diet in particular, but my mom is susceptible to high bp, and while she has not been able to get off her daily dose just yet (her Dr. has VERY stringent qualifications for that) I know she has been able to greatly reduce her bp through diet. She has cut out a lot of sodium, doesn't eat meat other than fish, and sticks with whole grains and healthy fats. Good luck!

Thank you for posting! Right now I am on a diuretic and a potassium supplement and was advised to follow a low fat low sodium diet until I go see the cardiologist next week for further advisement. Both of my parents have high BP so I guess it is inevitable but I am overweight and always have the best of intentions but no follow through:rotfl:

I am hoping that with an overhaul of my diet I will be able to put off meds for a few years. If your mom has any favorite fish recipes I would love some suggestions!!!

I have a mildly high BP and my doctor recommended the DASH diet. It's hard to break habits but hopefully I don't need to start a pill.

The cardiologist took me off of the diuretic (I had actually stopped it on my own but he made it official) and told me to also discontinue the Potassium because my blood pressure was normal when I went to see him. He said that the DASH diet is great but also recommended a book by Joel Fuhrman called Eat to Live. I ordered it from Amazon and it should be here by Wednesday but looking at all of the reviews, etc online it looks like it will be very informational.

Breaking old habits is very difficult and it also hard to maintain a healthy diet when always on the run. For me the thought of having to take a pill for the rest of my life has changed my thought process. Good luck to you!!!
