How long is too long? Disney is super clear it is not a front of line pass, and that there is a wait when you get there, just shorter than a normal wait.
I am well aware since we've used DAS in the past. Going beyond 15 minutes would probably be too much for him. I saw on social media where some DAS returns for things like RSR were excessively long.
Before the pandemic shut things down, DAS users had to wait in the same lines as Fastpass/Maxpass users. So in my view this isn't that different.
We were there on a moderately busy weekday and our DAS wait times were fairly minimal (less than 10 minutes on rides with Lightning Lane). The biggest exception was Indy, where the LL merges with the regular queue super early. We waited at least 20 minutes on that one. You might want to watch the standby wait times on that one and go when standby is low.
In general our DAS wait times were also lower in the mornings the 3 days we were there. More people were in the LL as the afternoon/evening wore on.
The other longer LL we encountered were when rides were temporarily broken down. This happened on the Matterhorn where we had a line to even check in to the LL. We chose to get out of line and come back later (you can easily cancel your DAS and make another selection).
Also keep in mind there are a large number of rides without LL (all of fantasy land, Pirates, many smaller rides). We were able to get on those quite quickly through the exit after waiting our designated DAS time outside the queue.
Yeah, I am mostly worried about things with ILL like RSR. Last time we mostly stuck to things that didn't have maxpass so we didn't have any issues. But this time we may want to try some of the more "intense" rides.
