I've used DAS for my son in the past. So I have a couple of questions how to get it for rides currently.

Do you still go to the ride entrance to obtain a return time?

Do they still have those carts in the parks that you can get a return time for a ride without actually going to the ride itself?

Is the return time showing up in the app, and if so where?

Hi, so as of a couple of weeks ago, only HS and Epcot had the guest service/blue umbrella stands for you to get a return time. MK and AK do not so you will have to go to the actual rides. The return time does show up on the app. It is usually right on the front page if you scroll down, but will always be in the "my plans" section.

There are some Guest Experince CMs at MK, but they do not have their umbrellas up, and they move around (which kinda defeats the purpose and usefulness to a degree). But we did find one a few times. One said there is no room for the umbrellas, which makes little sense becasue they find space in Studios. anyway, they are a GREAT help, to avoid walking all the way to a ride to get a return time.

But at the same time, they have been handy for us at times, as we were in our way to get a return time, stopped for a restroom, food, what have you along the way and started talking with them, they then gave us a return time and occasionally an anytime FP (pre COVID), never asked for that if course, just pixie dust.

I had no idea you could get a return time this way... we've always hoofed it to the attraction. Good to know!
Yeah, the only time we have been told no is either the attraction we want is down, so we pick a different one or their machine isn't working.

In January, there were cast members standing around with tablets where you could get a return time. But, this was mostly in Fantasyland. For other attractions, I went to the Fastpass entrance or nearby.

I also found that if you have a small party using a return time (3 or less) and the wait is relatively short, they may just let you through the Fastpass lane. I last used it in January but on weekdays.
