We are going to WDW in Oct with my mother in law who has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. This could be very well her only trip to WDW with all of her grandkids so we want to make it as enjoyable as possible. Is it unreasonable to try to get a DAS card for her since her treatment ( which she starts 2 weeks prior to our trip) will most likely lead to involuntary bouts of nausea / bathroom issues as well as fatigue. I can see getting a ECV or Wheelchair for the fatigue issue (so no DAS), but I would hate to see her try to work thru a 30 to 45 min line wait and then try to get out of line and make it a bath room if an "issue" comes up.

I think she would definitely be a candidate for a DAS, just let them know you are needing alternate waiting area.

As long as you explain to them that she is not able to wait in the ride queues because she may need immediate access to a restroom and you need another place to wait, you should be able to get one. With the fatigue alone they would probably suggest that you get her a mobility aid.

I'm so sorry. My brother had pancreatic cancer and it's just a terrible disease. I think you'll be able to get a DAS but she is definitely going to need a wheelchair once she is in treatment. Also though ask the Dr; the onc involved in my brother's care would not allow any kind of travel due to the high risks of clots and other complications. My brother was young and in good health before diagnosis and I know there is no way he could have traveled during the first chemo round even if the Dr allowed it. The chemo for pancreatic cancer is far different and stronger than what is typical for other cancers. My brother also had low blood counts which is a common side effect which lead to difficulty breathing. Please make sure if she is able to actually go that you have trip insurance that would cover a specialized medical flight home if needed and that her insurance covers care outside her home area. My brother had some type of hospital treatment during every single round of chemo whether it was a blood transfusion or iv fluids and if they get any kind of fever during treatment it's an automatic 5 day hospital stay. I'm really sorry to be a dark cloud on a sunny day but if she really can go you need to be prepared.
