DAS and Rider swap and timing for being able to select a new attraction.

How does DAS work in connection with rider swap? The DAS holder would be in the first party. Can he then select another attraction immediately after the 2nd tap point or must he wait for the 2nd party to go all the way through as well? If the later, what happens if the 2nd party decides not to ride?

I think you can get another ride as soon as the das holder taps into the second touch point

the only issue is that I believe everyone in the party needs to have tapped into the first ride before they can receive a das reservation to the next ride.

That's what I was wondering. Not sure about the timing of all this. We will likely be doing Rider Swap a lot.

I was wondering that as well, but the 2nd party is likely only 1 maybe 2 people and it’s possible at that point the DAS Return Time gets converted to a Rider Swap for those folks.

That was my thought too.
I’m guessing the DAS Return Time will be converted to a Rider Swap for the second group when they check in.
That would make the most sense to me - no need to verify DAS user when they come back that way. And, they already do Rider Swap for others, so no need for another process to be set up.
I guess you will find out when you check in for Rider Swap. It’s also possible that it might vary at some attractions.

I would also not count on being able to make a new DAS Return Time after the DAS user scanning in. We found WiFi was spotty in most attraction queues

So OP, are you thinking, you use the DAS for yourself+5 others, and one of those 5 sits out with a little one using rider swap, then goes on the ride after the main group of you? Is it set up so that 2 of the group (for DAS) can wait, and ride together after the first group goes?

Yes. We will have 3 toddlers in our group (12 month old, 2 yr old and 4 yr old). So, for rides they all can't all do, we will have to Rider Swap. The DAS holder (who is an adult) would go in the first party with others, then the adult who remained behind with some of the kiddoes would ride with another person as part of the 2nd party. Just not sure when the DAS holder would be able to select DAS for the next attraction.

When is your vacation? We have the same situation and I just came searching to find out how this works. We're going in early June, I can update if your trip is after, or I'd love to know your experience if it's before.

That's a good question!

You can hold a DAS return time (as either the DAS-holder or a guest) and a rider swap return at the same time, so sometimes it works like that and sometimes it doesn't.

If everyone but Alice rides, and Alice asks for a rider swap with Ben, there are three possible cases.

Alice's DAS return time is cleared when the swap pass is requested. Alice and Ben get a rider swap pass. You can book a new DAS as soon as the main group has tapped through all the tapstyles.

Alice's DAS return time is not cleared. Ben gets a rider swap pass, but Alice doesn't. You can book a new DAS as soon as Alice taps through all the tapstyles.

Alice's guest DAS return time is not cleared. Alice and Ben both get rider swap passes. This was the most common outcome for me on my last trip, and you can see both the DAS guest return and the rider swap in Alice's app. You can manually cancel Alice's guest DAS return immediately and book a new DAS for the whole group as soon as they clear the last tapstyle. If you don't clear Alice's DAS return time, Alice will have either a guest DAS return that needs to be manually cleared before Alice can be added to a DAS return time or Alice will have a phantom rider swap. The phantom rider swap will expire on it's own or be cleared by the cast member when you try to get a new rider swap. This outcome can be very confusing because once everyone else rides Alice's guest DAS return can only be seen if you're logged into Alice's account (or the account that directly manages Alice) on the WDW app. The blue umbrella cast members can see it and clear it.

This is very helpful, thank you!
