Hi, we have 3 small skylights in a dormer type room and it becomes very hot in the summer . I thought I saw a product that would stick on the window to darken them. Is there such a product and where might I purchase it? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

We had this same problem in our last house.

There are films that you can apply, check with HomeDepot and Lowe's to see if they have them.

Another option is blinds. Our friends have blinds that are on a track that runs along the edges of the skylights. They are remote controlled to open and close the slats.

Good luck!

We used tension rods and a curtain. I used dark material and made the curtain with extra material so it would be fairly thick. The curtain faded, but it really helped knock out a lot of the heat.

I suppose you could also use the thermal-backed material for a curtain as well. Hope this helps.

We have window shades on ours. It does help. We had ours professionally installed. If you do them yourself, be carefull. You have to allow a "gap" or your skylight may get to hot and explode.

The shades do help.

Thanks for the great ideas. I think I will try Home depot first for some film. That's scarey about the windows getting too hot and exploding with shades! I appreciate this so much. Thanks

We had limo tint put on ours. For two six by six it costed 400.00.

We had to look into this at the office; the skylight over my desk was just baking me in the summer. We looked at films (we were worried about how long they would last, and whether they would look junky) and blinds (too pricey & concerned about maintenence costs), and opted instead for a cover that went over the exterior of the skylight. It is a mesh that allows light in, but thankfully blocks most of the heat! I can't remember the cost, only that it was much cheaper than the blinds.
