We were offered a discounted stay at the Anaheim Discovery through our Credit Union reward points. We booked it, but when my wife started reading reviews she started saying "Oh no, what have we done?!"

So I was just curious if any of you fine folks dared a stay there... it seems pretty close to the park, and we're not planning on being there very much, but she's got visions of cockroaches and dirty sheets in her head and I don't want it to crush the Disney spirit.

Thanks for any input... positive or negative!

I've never heard of it, can you tell me where it is?

According to Trip Advisor,,,,,,,,,4 great reviews,,,16 'real poor'. :scratchin
Might be a good indication.

It is on Katella Ave, across from the parking lot.

I can't post links yet since my post count isn't high enough... but you can go to AnaheimDiscoveryInn dot com to see which hotel I'm talking about.

Yeah... that's what my wife saw too. Right after we booked, of course. :rolleyes2

I personally don't mind as much as I know we won't be in the room much, but she's kinda worried about it.

I've never even heard of it. So I looked at their site.

They are particularly sneaky in their description of where they are. "one of the most conveniently situated hotels for travelers looking to be close to Disneyland (we're a tenth of a mile away!)"

Sure, the park is a tenth of a mile away, but you can't get in at the spot that's that close. If you're not driving, you'll either want to take ART over to the main gate, or walk to Disneyland Dr, turn up towards Paradise Pier Hotel and the Grand Californian, and walk up to the Grand. Go in the main doors of that hotel, turn down a hallway on your left, and follow it along to Downtown Disney. It puts you approx halfway down DTD, turn right (finding your way back, you'll look for Sephora on your left and turn left immediately after that store), and go on to bag check.

Being a complete Disneyland novice, I wasn't sure where the entrance was... just going by Google Maps I thought we could walk through the parking lot and get in on the left side.

Bummer. :-(

That parking lot is now CarsLand....if I'm thinking of the right lot at least. :) I've never stayed at this hotel but I feel it is definitely too far to walk. You may want to check into ART from this hotel.

We have not stayed at that hotel, but have stayed nearby. It will be a walk, but I noticed on their website it said that they have a complimentary shuttle. That may be worth looking into. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

If it is any solace to your wife, we have taken trips where I was nervous about the hotel due to the tripadvisor information, and others where I had read about the accolades later to be horrified. Usually the ones which read the worst are ones where I have had fine experiences.

Good luck!

I can't find that, and the info doesn't go along with what I know about the hotels in the area (since ART started there are only two, if I recall correctly, hotels with their own shuttle and I don't think ADI is one of them). Where do you see that info?

This taken from their website:
In addition to our unbeatable location, our Anaheim hotel offers more amenities than you'd get at many other hotels near Disneyland—and at much better rates! Our in-room Anaheim hotel amenities include high-speed Internet access, refrigerator and microwave, free local calls and many other home-like comforts. Additional perks your family will love include our complimentary breakfasts, shuttles to nearby attractions, Jacuzzi, pool and room service.

Also on their site under the tab Disneyland: ...from the magical Disneyland. You can walk there in ten minutes or take our complimentary shuttle to get there even faster!

Interesting. I would need to call them and grill them about the shuttle. And I still wouldln't believe them.

We recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn; their website says one thing about their shuttle. But the reality was QUITE different. So I have very little trust for that stuff, especially given the flat out lies their website has (talking about how they are at the maingate! can't have both convention center AND maingate in your backyard at the same time, people...). I'd need to call them, and I really hope that someone comes back and reviews it.

While googling, I found mention that the OCTA 430 bus is free for a certain period of time, and that bus goes right by this Inn, so if I were staying there I would 3/4 expect their free shuttle to be that bus. But hey, I've been wrong before!

I didn't even see that about the complimentary shuttle... if true that makes me feel much better about the place!

Called the hotel... I asked the Indian-sounding fellow about a complimentary shuttle and he said "Um, it's not complimentary..." He said they have a shuttle but it costs $4. Then he said "But you don't need it... just cross the street and you are in!"

Yeah...

Yeah...

:lmao:...yup just what i thought...its the ART...very few places have complimentary shuttles and they are much nicer than the place you are staying at...what my biggest concern would be is the cleanliness and the torn sheets people complained about...thats just gross...if you dont mind me asking...how much was that room per night?

We got it for $159.xx for four nights, so right at $40 a night.

Get what you pay for I guess!

I live not too far away so decided to go for a walk and timed the walk from DI to DLR. It's about 14-15 minutes walking through GCH to the DLR security check, including the waits for the crosswalk signals at Katella and DL Drive. If that seems like a long walk then have a seat in the GCH lobby. :) The DI looked decent, including the pool. I think it might work out for the OP.
