a huge Disney fan (i.e, movies, merchandise etc)?

Ok, I'm not a WDW fan in the same sense that most here are. I mean, I've only been four times (dh doesn't like it, sigh...). But I do love it and hope to go many more times. However I'm not big into Disney movies, merchandise, etc. I like Disney about as much as any other American. The movies are pleasant, characters are cute etc. I enjoy them with my dd but would never have any real interest in them myself.

But I totally get into WDW. I love planning the trips and once I'm there I want to see Mickey, Cinderella, Pooh bear and all the other characters as much as anyone else. The rides are much better than any other theme park and you gotta love the hotels with their theming etc.

Just wondering if I'm alone in this (please don't shoot lol!)?

I know exactly what you mean. I seem to enjoy each trip down to WDW more than the last, but am not otherwise a big Disney fanatic. I do have some of the movies on tape/DVD, but otherwise there is not much in the way of Disney merchandise around the house. I rarely buy souveniers, though I am a huge Tigger fan. I'm not even much into the original Disney characters. Give me the parks any day.

Me too! I love WDW and have been 29 times, love the character meals, etc, but hardly own any Disney movies, and in fact haven't seen a lot of them. I really just enjoyed the older movies such as the original Parent Trap, The Horsemasters, the Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit, The Ugly Dachshund, and things along those lines. Those were awesome! :) I also hardly own any Disney stuff at my house.

I'm in the same boat with ya. I've been 3 times and planning our next trip and plan on going many times after that but other than that, I don't go buying all kinds of Disney stuff. I do have some movies for the kids but they hardly watch them. I absolutely love going to WDW and love all the parks and atmosphere. Other than that, I'm all set.

Same here, though we have not yet been to WDW. But we go to Disneyland ALL the time and never buy any souvenirs. We have like one stuffed Mickey. Actually, I think we have all the videos because my FIL has been buying them for my kids since my DS15 was very small, & a few books, but that's about it. My DH would never allow us to go over the top w/ the Disney stuff because he's just too burned out on it from being a DL CM. Heh. I tell him he's a killjoy, but really, we're kind of apathetic as far as Disney merchandise is concerned, especially since we know he can buy whatever whenever with his discount - you'd think that would make us want it more, but it has kind of the opposite effect. We love the parks, though (except my hubby, who thinks it's too much like being at work)!

Wow!, this is interesting. I love all things Disney(well most things). And it is intrigueing that people that are not Disney fans love WDW, at least to the degree that they come to websites like this.

But on second thought I understand that truly great family locations like WDW are few and far between, so I guess it's not comletly out of the ordinary. I guess...

Well, rock on, and have fun at WDW!

I don't know if it is they are not disney fans. I find myself in the same boat. I love all the old movies from childhood, and am really excited about the vacation. However, I would be unlikely to buy a disney sweatshirt for myself. Maybe I only feel free to let my inner child play at WDW? :bounce:

Thanks for the replies. LOL looks like I'm not alone, but a small group here.

*****Maybe I only feel free to let my inner child play at WDW?*****

Maybe that's it with me. I'm a rather quiet, restrained etc sort of person.

And I DO like Disney movies etc. But I hadn't watched once since I was a child until DD was born. Now I enjoy watching them again with her, but honestly wouldn't sit down and watch them without her etc. Well except the Pixar movies (and do those count as Disney or not?). I love the Pixar movies and would watch those kids or not!

Of course now I AM feeling like watching a Disney movie. Maybe dd will watch The Rescuers with me....lol.

As far as the merchandise goes, that's probably more because I'm cheap when it comes to buying stuff for myself. Well, other than scrapbooks supplies and books. That and we have a tiny house and I have grown to hate clutter so don't buy anything decorative anymore that isn't functional and necessary also.

I love the movies, and find that they add to my WDW experience. I had never seen any of the movies as a kid (what on earth did we do, living an hour from a theater, with no VCR or DVD or Disney channel?? :) ) and I think I "get it" better now.

As for merchandise ... eh. If I find small, subtle things that are useful and don't require maintenance or cleaning and remind me of Disney, then great. I have a Mickey head wine stopper. and an antenna topper. Next time I'm getting a bottle opener. Besides a small handful of character clothing (again with the small and subtle logo -- think polo or izod) that's about it!

I don't watch the movies, well sometimes maybe if my DW wants to, but that's almost never. But I still love going to WDW. It's just a perfect escape from ordinary serious life.

Plus the rides are fun, and the fireworks kick butt. :)

No, you are not alone. Yes I love the parks, the excitement of planning a trip.
The thrill of staying on site and all WDW has to offer but as for merchandise I only buy the mugs, they are of great use.:goodvibes
