Dare I ask about pull out sofa comfort?

We are considering staying in a 1 bedroom suite at OKW or SSR. In doing this, we would be giving up the king bed to my MIL and we would be staying in the living room area on the.....it just pains me to write this......pull out sofa. This only happens if you guys can tell me that the queen pull out sofa is actually comfortable enough to sleep on soundly for 9 nights. I just can't believe that it's going to be all that comfortable, but it would be a money saver, if we were to change from a the "dream" of a 2 bedroom suite to a one bedroom suite.

I have spent many nights on pull out sofas and they have mostly been tortured nights with some sort of a bar pressing oddly at my shoulders, hips, lower back, or somewhere. I just can't say that I have been impressed by my experiences thus far.

Now, back to the point....are those pull out sofas comfortable or are they the run of the mill queen pullout sofa that is going to lead me straight home to see the chiropracter? We are both Pooh sized, which I'm sure will make a difference, but someone on these boards has to have some input.

I look forward to your posts. Hoping for more :thumbsup2 than :headache:

I would love to know about pull out sofa beds too. We are thinking of getting a 2BD villa and that would put my sister on the pull out.

Are some sofa beds better at different villas?

You should actually be very comfortable. The pull out sofas at SSR and OKW are the newer type sofa beds that don't have any metal bars or springs. They are more like memory foam mattresses on a solid-surface base.

When I stayed at SSR last January, I thought the sofa bed was very comfortable.:thumbsup2

The only DVC resort that doesn't have the newer sofa beds is VWL, but all the other DVC resorts have the newer type sofa beds.

There actually are three types of sleeper sofas that I know about. The older ones still at VWL with saggy mattress and bar that you feel everytime you move. The memory foam mattress at SSR and the newest one with the cushions that do not come off, but flip under to help form the bed. This is more of an non-memory foam mattress, but very comfortable.

I don't know about the pull-out sofas at the resorts you mentioned specifically, but the one I recently slept on at the Poly was very comfortable. It pulled out to a twin size and I had no problem sleeping on it.

DS13 loves sleeping on the pull outs for our entire trip. He's slept on one at AKL (1 bedroom suite) and one at BWI (deluxe concierge room) and was fine. He never complained about discomfort. He's good size, too, not light-weight.

Both of these sleepers where the regular pullout kind.

Why would you give up the master bedroom??? :confused3 If you're paying for the room put MIL on the sofabed. The one in SSR is very comfortable. Now if MIL is paying, give her what she wants. :rolleyes1

MIL should be happy you're taking her with you. BTW, I never give up my bed for anyone, not even in my own home.

We slept on a sofa bed at SSR in a studio during our trip in January '07. I actually prefer the sofa bed over the regular bed. It is very comfortable and easy to use. HTH

We stayed in a 2bedroom villa at SSR last Aug. DS wanted to sleep on the sofa bed. He said it was a lot more comfortable than the bed. It was easy to pull out also.I laid down one night to watch a movie with him and fell asleep myself.:rotfl:

We had a 2 BR at BCV last August. The kids planned on swapping the bed and pull out but DSS11 really liked the sleep sofa and didn't end up swapping with his sister at all.

We've stayed at BWV twice - the first time the pull out sofa was VERY comfortable (for DS sho was just shy of 5, and occasionally DH joined him when DD and I fell asleep early in the king bed and he didn't want to bother us). Second time, it was just okay, but fine for just our son (DD slept in a toddler size aerobed next to us).

But, if you are overweight, and the TWO of you sleeping on that, while just one adult takes the king size bed alone, that doesn't make any sense. That seems very unkind to take the king bed and expect you to sleep on a pullout sofa together. Unless she's paying and insists on doing that, it should be the other way around. I only weigh roughly 130, and I couldn't share a queen size sofa sleeper for that long with my DH. If the MIL is insisting on the king size bed herself, I wouldn't do it.

You know, I was thinking the same exact thing, except that my MIL isn't allowed to go on vactaion with me anywhere :scared1: . That would be a huge mistake, one of us would probably kill the other one :headache: .

My mom travels with my DH and I, but she sleeps where I put her, not where she would probably rather be. But she says she is in Disney, so it really doesn't matter where she sleeps

I put a friend on the sofa sleeper in 03 at OKW. She said it was a good thing we had the aerobed topper for it. I forgot the suitcase the first night and had to get my brother to take me back to the airport to get it. :headache:

Thanks for all of the input. We would be paying the lion's share of the room cost if we were to upgrade to OKW. Corey is a total mamma's girl and would never think of asking her mom to sleep on a pull out sofa. Her mom has lots of health issues, which is part of the reason why I would prefer to be in a suite where we could keep a closer eye on her, but paying for a 2 bedroom suite is completely outside of our budget. I would be willing to rent DVC points, but being that Corey is paying for the trip and she is unwilling to take the leap of faith and trust that goes along with that, it's not really an option. So, I am back to praying for a 40% off code! Thanks again for all of the feedback!

That is the reason that we chose the AS Music Family Suite, because I have to be close by for my mother, but she still has to sleep on the Full Size pullout. Dh and I are not comfortable in a FS, we have to have a Queen or King.

If I remember right, the pull out sofa bed mattresses at SSR and Boardwalk were extremely comfortable. The ones at OKW are old and you feel that bar in your back. They are not very thick mattresses at OKW either. It was okay for our kids because they don't take up the length of the bed but no way would I sleep at OKW on the sofa bed! The other beds, yes!

HTH!

I am ok with this idea, but Corey isn't. Corey is determined that she wants her own space with a private bedroom for us and a private bedroom for her mom. So, either we take two separate rooms like we have now at ASMo or we book a two bedroom suite at SSR or OKW. I would love to have the suite so that MIL could have some room to breathe and have her coffee whenever she so desires.

The factor that I haven't mentioned so far is that MIL is a smoker and we both have asthma. Needless to say, this makes for an interesting combo when "sleep space" has to double as "common area" space. Wherever we end up, MIL will have to have a room close to a DSA. She can't walk more than 30 yards without needing to sit down, so this is going to be a challenge. She also is going to be at the very least, using a scooter, but may be in a wheelchair by that point.

Lots of factors to consider.....

My MIL is a smoker and that is one reason I won't be around her, I have asthma and am highly sesitive to cigarette smoke.

Might I recommed that you rent her an ECV from an offsite rental place for her to use while she is there and then she would have a little independence with it. I had to push my mom in a WC on our first trip and that was no fun for either of us, since then she has rented an ECV and I have had to as well, because of a knee injury and developing problems with my feet. My mom can't walk very far without having to sit down because of some arthritis in her back.

If we had to go like that, we couldn't afford to go. Have you thought about the cabins at Fort Wilderness? I think they might be a little less expensive and they have a seperate bedroom and a full kitchen. There is a full size bed in the bedroom and a set of bunkbeds (which we used to open out or luggage on) and a pull down Murphy bed in the living room, which my mom said was very comfortable. The door to the bedroom can be closed so there is some privacy, and there are 2 doors to the outside, one of which is in the bedroom, each has a private deck (some have ramps for WC/ECV's) and the neighbors aren't too close. we didn't manage them well with 2 ECV's, but it wouldn't be bad with only one.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to help, I have to do alot of research because of the accommodations I have to have for my mother and to keep DH happy, too.

Good Luck.

Suzanne

I like the Ft. Wilderness Cabins idea. The other thought is that maybe your wife and MIL could sleep together. I know its not what DH and I would prefer, but you might trade a little less marital bliss for a back that you can both live with.

DH and I are both Pooh sized and invariably have ended up with the 2 double beds at POR/POFQ every time we've stayed. On one stay, we slept together and hung on for dear life, and the next time slept separately. I can't believe we've ever slept on a twin bed together. After 16 years of marriage, comfort wins out over togetherness.

I'm also thinking that MIL might actually be embarassed by the situation. (Here Mom, here's this really great land barge, oh us, we'll be in the clown car.)
