Dapper Day

How are the crowds the week before Dapper Day? I am thinking about going during Dapper Day but getting there earlier in the week like Wednesday and then staying until Sunday. I was looking into going for the same days but in May on the weekend of Memorial day so either way I would probably be going while it is busy, just was hoping that getting there a couple days before Dapper Day wouldn't be too bad.
