Danskin Triathlon

Hi everybody!! I've been looking into triathlons for this year, and saw the "projected" dates for the Danskin Tri at WDW. Has anyone done this tri before? What did you think? I know that it used to go through the MK, but last years course was primarily at Fort Wildnerness. Does this make it any less "Disney" or less exciting? I obviously love Disney AND tri's, but wonder if it would have a Disney-feel to it at FW. Does this make any sense?

I know that registration opens and closes in a matter of hours, so I'll have to make this decision before that day gets here

I have done this triathlon in both places MK and FW. It was fun in both arenas. It is more kid friendly and easier to move around FW then the mess trying to get out of Magic Kingdom. I already have my campsite for that weekend so will definitely be there again this year.

Trek Women's Triathlon used the same course as Danskin but they haven't put their dates up yet.

Hey-

I get your concerns. I've never met a character picture opportunity I didn't take in a Disney race. I did the Trek tri in September. Nothing says you are at Disney- not the course, not the t-shirt, not the medal. I thought that would bother me, but it didn't. I had a great time.

Even walking around the parks all that day, I didn't see any other women wearing t-shirts or medals (or sporting the "oh, you mean I didn't scrub off all of my numbers?!" look I had going).

I still loved it and will probably do another at Disney regardless of the lack of Disney stuff. I would love to go through MK, but it was so nice to be able to stay at FW and just walk/bus to the start and back without a lot of planning. It was my family's favorite race since I wasn't waking people up at 3 a.m. and I got back quickly to hit the parks!

I have done Danskin at Disney 3 times and last year's Trek at Disney. The first two Danskins I did had the course in front of the MK and ran through the castle - definitely the Disney feel, and it was AWESOME! I did last year's Danskin and Trek through FW, and while it didn't feel as "Disney" as before, I had a GREAT time, especially at Danskin. You are still at Disney, and there is so much to do and see other than the actual race. FW is beautiful! And the course is great, except for the 4 overpasses you do on the bike... As far as comparing the two - while I love, love, love Sally Edwards and Maggie Sullivan who are now doing Trek, it just didn't feel as polished and organized as Danskin. Plus, the Trek site had a WDW date, took it down, then put up a TBA date for Orlando - not sure what's going on there. I'll be signing up for Danskin Disney as soon as it opens, though!
