I bought 3 packs of refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough today- Nestle Tollhouse Ultimates Chocolate Chip Lovers from Target.

DD17 just realized it. They have been sitting in my car for about 5 hours. the high was probably around 90 degrees today. My car was parked in my garage.

What do you thing?
A.) Throw them away
B.) Cook them at 350 degrees as usual and they're safe
C.) Eat them, but make sure the will is in order

Grrrr!

When we first got into the car today, it did feel almost hot enough to cook an egg on the sidewalk, lol....but 90 degrees is cooler than it usually is here in July.

If it were just me eating them, I wouldn't worry so much. But my kids are who I am more afraid of having get sick......You know, I'd sure hate to be too sick to go to work tomorrow. :lmao:

Without a doubt...throw them out!!

Check the ingredients. If there were raw eggs in there, I'd throw them out. If not (like for example if the label says pasteurized eggs, which are basically already cooked), then there's nothing that would have been made dangerous by being unrefrigerated for a few hours. I can't imagine they wouldn't be a total mess though with the shortening and chocolate chips all melted. If you decide to go ahead I'd probably put them back in the fridge for a while to let everything "set back up" before I tried to put them on a baking sheet.

Good advice! According to the ingredients, there are eggs and egg yolks in the dough. :sad1:

You can see the ingredient list here: http://www.foodfacts.com/ci/nutritionfacts/Snack-Foods/Nestle-Toll-House-Ultimate-Chocolate-Chip-Lovers-Cookies--oz/43058

I'd throw it out. Not worth chancing getting sick over.

Hmm...that is a tough one. My logical side says throw them out, but I would probably be tempted to bake them. I guess maybe you could get salmonella?

I like to make a huge batch of cookie dough at home, then roll it into little balls and freeze them on a cookie sheet, then transfer to a ziplock and keep them in the freezer. When you want a few cookies, just take out however many you need and bake them! :)

There is no way I would cook them and eat them!!!! Throw them away and go buy new ones!!!!

Please tell me your car smelled great. It seems like it would be the ultimate car freshener.

I'd eat them. I mean, you're cooking them in a 350 degree oven and there are so many preservatives in that refrigerated cookie dough anyway that I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

I would cook them and eat them. But I would not take a chunk of uncooked dough.

Im pretty sure that the eggs in the dough are pasteurized even though it might not say that, but I could not enjoy the cookies for worrying about getting sick. I would toss them.

Nobody wants to toss their cookies.

Responsible me says: I really don't think the $5 is worth the risk of diarrhea, food poisoning or dysentery .

Irresponsible me says: How did you not polish off the uncooked dough on the drive home?!

Sadly in my younger days, while I bought numerous packages of cookie dough, I never actually baked any of them - rather it was a snack that sat next to the butter, to be enjoyed one glorious pinch at a time.
