Dane Cook--Funny or Not?

What Do You Think of Dane Cook?

  • Dane Cook is the funniest comedian out there today!

  • Eh. He's all right. Nothing special, but not horrible, either.

  • He's nothing less than a total blight on comedy!

OMG, he is HILARIOUS!!! I wouldn't classify him as one of the funniest comedians EVER, but I have tears running down my face everytime I watch his HBO special!

" I tried my best *sniffle sniffle* BUT I TRIED MY BEST *booooohoooo*" :rotfl: :rotfl:

"Women are mental terrorists, real brain ninjas" :lmao:

Oh man, I am cracking myself up just thinking about it. Some of his funniest material I can't post here, but I am chuckling just replaying it in my head.

Sometimes I think he's hysterical, and other times, I think he's totally lame. There's no happy medium with this guy.

Dane Cook is too damn funny. Usually have tears rolling down my face while watching him.

He's a funny guy, but not the funniest. Brian Regan gets my vote for hilarious humor and somebody I'm not embarrassed for my kids to listen to.:thumbsup2

have you ever heard his Car Alarm skit? the one about that famous car alarm sound and making up lyrics to it in the middle of the night? I love that one! and the price is right one. He sounds just like the wheel :rotfl:

Terrible.

Suprisingly though his first guest spot on Saturday Night Live was one of the highest rated for that entire season. His opening monologue was over 15 minutes long which I promptly turned off.

Yes, he's nice looking in a jerky male jock way. (screams captain of the football or wrestling team).

But he is definetely not funny.

and have sat through each routine without so much as cracking a smile--completely straightfaced.

That pretty much describes my reaction. I've never actively seeked him out, but I've been flipping through and stopped for a few minutes to see what's up, or have seen him on talk shows and I've yet to find anything he said humorous. Maybe I'm not catching the right clips, but what I've seen has prevented me from feeling the need to seek out more.

Agreed.

I think, in the age of MySpace and YouTube, that mass audiences are enamored with anything that makes them say, "Hey, that doesn't look too hard--I could do that!" In short, people have come to expect (love?) mediocrity.

And that explains Dane Cook (and Tina-Fey-and-beyond era SNL), in a nutshell.

(Ducking! :duck: )

Oh whatever. Is there any comic that everyone is going to like? Is there a comic who is laugh-out-loud funny all the time? No. I've been surfing youtube throughout the evening and I have laughed hard at times. I've also found some of his clips to be just eh. You don't like him, fine. He definitely has a certain style that maybe you just don't like. That hardly makes him mediocre.

I've been a fan since 2003. His first CD is hilarious! The BK Lounge, Speak and Spell, Kool Aid Man, etc. Funny stuff! :rotfl:

OMG! I just looked up the speak n' spell one......:happytv:. I also found one about "the finger". OMG, I could hardly breathe that was so funny. :rotfl2:

Saw that. Again, didn't find it funny in the least. Loud, yes. Funny? Not so much.

Now, if you want really funny, check out Patton Oswalt or David Cross. Jim Gaffigan and Lewis Black are pretty okay, too.

ETA: Of course, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Ricky Gervais=pretty damn funny in my book, too. But, don't get me wrong. I tried to like Dane Cook. I really did. It's just that I tend to categorize him as the Yakov Smirnoff of the current youth generation.

:thumbsup2 Jim Gaffigan, Colbert, and Stewart. I'll have to check out Ricky Gervais.

I do think he is mediocre at best. In fact when he was hosting SNL the first time, my DH even said "I wonder who he knows (or is sleeping with) to get this gig?"

I'm not saying its a generational thing, but it just isn't that funny.

I thought that too at first because I had never heard of him. But I thought his monologue was hysterical--I assummed it was his own material. If the rest of the show wasn't good (I honestly don't remember) that can really be blamed on the staff writers. Like I said before, I've found some really good bits on youtube. I've also found some duds.

I found him entertainingly funny. I laughed. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't really get what all the hullaballoo is about with him. He's kinda funny, but not enough to really even make me laugh out loud - and I'm all about comedy. :confused3
