I thought I would do the last bit of the report all in one go as the final week was more relaxing!
Today we got up early again and packed our cases. We had another studio tour this morning then we were driving on to Las Vegas for a week. We drove to the Sony studios (the old MGM studios where many classics were filmed such as The Wizard of Oz) which is also the Columbia/tri star studios. This studio was located further out of Hollywood than the others and was more film based rather than TV show. We wondered around the lots and into some street sets.
We went onto one of their biggest sound stages where they had filmed all the Oceans films (I loved them!) and saw some of the sets for Angels and Deamons which they were filming that day. Tom Hanks and Ewan McGreggor were on the lot as well. We saw a few of the actors for this being driven around in the carts between the sound stages. We also went into the painting department into a huge buildng where they hand paint the back drops onto cloth. These were amazing. Then we went into the workshops where they were building more film sets (again more Angels and Deamons, the Vatican set). We also went on to the set of Jepordy which the Americans in our group loved! The tour ended at 12:30pm and we had lunch in the cafe there before leaving for las Vegas at 1:30pm.
The drive out of LA wasn't too bad, not nearly as bad as we were expecting and soon we were making our way through the mountains and the Mojave desert towards Las Vegas. At some points the only road on the sat nav was the one we were on, there was nothing else there!
At 6pm we finally arrived at the Bellagio.
The bell man took the bags and valet took to car so we went off to check in (the hotel must have one of the most beautiful check in desks ever, and the smell from the flowers was out of this world.)
We were soon on our way to our room where we were greated with an amazing view.
We decided to un pack and have a relax so we headed down to the Fontana bar where we spent the evening on the patio watching the dancing fountains (I spent a lot of this week watching the dancing fountains!)
Then we headed back up to our room, where I sat and watched the fountains some more!
Seen as we spent a week in Vegas I think I'll just condence it to the highlights!
The conservatory in the Bellagio. I love this place, they have the lost amazing floral displays. This time the theme was a tribute to American locomotives.
The Grand Canyon (the pictures don't do it justice)
Including the Sky Walk
And the helicopter trip out to the canyon
The Hoover dam
And we drove out to Red Rock Canyon
We did see a few Cirque du Soliel shows when we were there too, O and Ka. We liked them, O especially. We also spent quite a bit of time just looking around the other hotels as they were so nice.
This is the entrance to a toy store!
Oh and eating at quite a few nice restaurants. On our anniversary we ate at Prime Steakhouse in the Bellagio and the chef sent out a soecial desert for us.
We had a wonderful time in Vegas and will definately be going back!!
