He will be missed in year 1 of the contract.

For the sake of conversation, assume the following:
Year 1 32 years old 2006 12 million
Year 2 33 years old 2007 12.75 million
Year 3 34 years old 2008 13.25million
Year 4 35 years old 2009 14

Years 3 and 4 at those numbers are going to be tough to swallow. I think he will have a good year next year, but all of those years with the sox that he sacrificed his body and played hurt are going to catch up to him. His numbers went down last year and will continue to go down later in the contract. Next year I think you might see a status quo in his numbers, but after that, I definitely think they will go down.

I think the sox made a calculated decision that there weren't any other real bidders out there for damon and thought their 4 year 40 mil would stick. Apparently it didn't. I am disappointed, but I think the sox would have had to go to 5 years and 65 mil to get him or at the very least go 4 years at 52+mil and that would have been a mistake. He has 2 MAYBE 2+ good years left in him.

The bigger question is, who are the sox going to get now? Reed from the Mariners has been a rumor?

I'm not a big baseball fan, so I'm not upset, but it was shocking to hear. He has become quite the "face" around Boston. It's hard to picture him as a Yankee.

Looking at the salary numbers, it seems apparent that Damon did not want to stay in Boston. Doncha just hate the Yankees? Good grief, I am already looking forward to them losing next year. Until my favorite team gets good again (maybe next millenium for the Detroit Tigers ), I get to pull for the whole rest of the league against the Yankees.

It's always about the money, why do we fans think otherwise? BTW, I'm not a Yankee fan, so I really don't care where he ended up.

And he'll look very nice. Before he was in Boston, he had short hair. I've seen his early baseball cards and he looked nice, I like him better with less hair.
