My daughter's AG doll fell off a shelf and the paint is scratched off her face in a couple of places. Her face itself doesn't seem to be scratched, just that the paint is gone. Anyway, I said no big deal, we'll send her off to the doll hospital and they'll give her a new head. Wrong! DD is very upset at the thought of her doll getting a replacement head.:rolleyes1 Are there any other options? Has anyone tried painting their doll's face?

Good heavens, mom, haven't you ever heard of the little white lie?:rotfl:

"Sweetie, I just called the American Girl Doll Hospital and they CAN paint her face!!! She won't have to have a new head after all! They will fix her just like new - they will even brush her hair so it looks pretty! Isn't that wonderful?"

If she is young enough to be playing with American Girl dolls AND to be upset about the repair, she's young enough to believe you.

Soemtimes a mom just has to make something happen. No need to get into the gory details...

But this is the child who said, two years ago, "Some kids at school don't believe in Santa. They think it's the parents. I was thinking I could ask Santa for something, and not tell you guys about it, and then I'd know." :rolleyes1 So I know she'd figure it out. ;)

Then level with her and throw it back to her. Let her make the choice. Tell her we can send it back and yes it will be a new head OR you can keep her and love her just as she is. This is how I always dealt with mine. It is her doll it should be her decision. If in a year or two she decides she wants it fixed you can always do it then or she may like her doll with character!

I know where you can get a new head, if you don't mind a little rat feces. :rotfl:

I think Hannathy has the right idea. Give her options and let her decide which course to take.

maybe call the doll hospital and see if they do have something cosmetic that they use on the original head:confused3

:laughing:about the rat feces thread....

Okay so ... if she's upset at the thought of having the head replaced, then just let her play with the scratched up doll. Is that so terrible? :confused3

We don't send our real kids off for replacement body parts every time they get a scar. Well at least I don't.

I don't know if that was *meant* to sound judgmental, but why would you assume I'm making a big deal about it, or not letting her play with a scratched up doll? She wanted it fixed, she didn't want its head replaced, so I'm seeing if anyone knows of other options. Right now she's playing with it as is.

Um, what??? That sounds like a doozy! I'll have to look for it. Yikes. I need a little entertainment today.

Argh!!! You beat me to this suggestion!!!!! :rotfl:
Holy cow. I'm subscribing to the thread just to hear the answer.

OP ... it looks like they have ear piercing as an extra at the Doll Hospital. Maybe that will encourage your DD to have the replacement done.

You can get stencil paint at Micheals or another craft store and touch it up with a makeup sponge of small brush. If you make a mistake it'll wash off. Easy, cheap fix for now, then one day when she's ready maybe you go visit and AGP and drop your doll off at the doll hospital desk there. It'll save shipping and my girls always liked the idea of handing her over to the nurse at the counter. Sadly though, they don't dress like nurses anymore...

Okay, I just went and read that thread and I'm all itchy, I need a shower, and I'm convinced that I'm going to have nightmares about those pictures. I am in the contingency that believes dolls are creepy, however.
