Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Wears Blackface for Halloween

Yeah, much ado about nothing. I had a white friend who went as Tia Dalma (from the Pirates films) a few years ago. She looked AMAZING! She used dark makeup, and in no way was it considered to be scandalous or racially insensitive amongst anybody at the party. Same deal here.

I put on a pig nose for halloween. does that make me a porkist?

Mikeeee

So then, did anybody see the furore about the Australian skit where a group of "performers" (and I use that term loosely) pretended to be the Jackson 5 - 4 performers in what I guess was blackface and the lead singer in white face.

Harry Connick Jnr was judging the performance and he was profoundly offended by the skit (the first time the performers did the skit they were medical students - now 20 years later they are all senior doctors). They were styalising the Jackson 5 including the overdone costumes.

It seemed that half the commentators were condemning and half were not. If it is of interest, 4 of the 5 performers were not even white, they were a blend of Indian, Sri Lankan and other nationalities.

Is this performance of its nature offensive?

I don't consider full body paint to be black face.

We had this discussion weeks ago when a model did this in a magazine spread.

There were black actors who portrayed white females in a movie, C. Thomas Howell in Soul Man....

This isn't the disparaging black face with shoe polish making a "mask" on the face.

Probably was not the smartest thing to do since she is a DCC. I do not see her costume as portrayed racism.

Her costume may get her kicked off the team though. The DCC is tough as nails on the girls in their personal lives.

So basically if you become a Dallas cheerleader you sign your life over to them - even when you're not cheering? Thanks, but no thanks..

Almost;) After watching several seasons of "The Making of the DCC", I did realize that they are held to a high standard off the field. One girl was kicked off of the training squad, due in large part to pictures that serviced showing her out drinking (she was of age) with friends. Yes, DCC wear skimpy uniforms and have a sexy calendar, but they try to sell their cheerleaders as "classy sexy" as opposed to "skanky". They train them to look professional and to be well spoken when they are out of uniform. They tell them that they are always representing the DC brand wherever they are.

That being said, I have a black face and I don't consider what she did to be racist or offensive. Some costumes need more stuff added so that people know who you're supposed to be. Someone portraying Elvis doesn't really need to color themselves white - just an Elvis outfit and shades and most people know who it is. If she didn't color herself, people would probably ask all night "and who are you supposed to be?" With the skin color, the clothes and, I suppose she had a grill, I'm sure people knew exactly who she was.

Are you watching the new season? Perhaps this is ploy to get some ratings? Just a thought.....

Heck, they do this on America's Next Top Model every season. Sad thing is that she'll probably lose her job and be booted off the team when she really didn't do anything wrong.

HAHA - I am watching it. I can't imagine Kelli thinking up something like that:lmao:

:rotfl: I agree . Is she uptight or what? Some of the comments Kelly and Judy make about these girls and even to their face is downright rude. I actually feel bad for them.

Don't think the costume was that big of a deal either. Give me a break.

Maybe Jerry Jones circulated the pictures to give the Cowboys organization some media coverage? ;)

They are getting really cranky.

Did Kelli gain weight? It looks like she put on some lbs since last season.

How about those Minchu pagent girls that quit? Frankly Kelli and Judy get a beating for that one for letting them join the squad when they knew they had prior committments.

How could a white person go as Lil' Wayne for Halloween without painting themselves? It wouldn't make any sense.

Seriously....this is one of the dumbest things I have eveer heard. I had a black kid come by my house in white paint for Halloween but I wasn't offended in the least. Give me a freaking break people!!

I did see that Kelli gained some weight. maybe she's pregnant;)

Those Minchu girls knew better. All that scheduling stuff should have been hashed out before they went to the first audition. How can DCC be your first priority when you have commitments to your present title?

Can't remember her name, but that mousey, scared looking candidate should be next to go. She doesn't have the spunk!

Doesn't Fred Amisen do that every week on SNL?

Yes!

The DCC's costume was pretty darned good - someone did a nice job at the body paint - I didn't see it as insensitive to AA people at all - she was dressing as a celebrity. (BTW, thanks for posting the link to the picture of Lester Holt as Susan Boyle..funny! I saw Al Roker as Han Solo the day before - sorry Al, gastric bypass or no, you don't have the body for Han Solo.)

It's been fun watching the DCC show this year because one of the training camp candidates was our school drill team captain two years ago. She received quite a bit of screen time in one of the episodes [she's the one who got sick last year], but I doubt that we'll be seeing much of her in future episodes because she was never in trouble, was never called into the office.

I'm so happy that I'm not the only person who watches DCC Making the Team!!!

Yea, she will probably go next week.

And yes, you are not the only one watching the DCC this season Rora.

For whatever reason, I love this show.;)

I saw something about the show on CMT and I thought about watching it but I watch so many shows as it is that I don't think I need to add another "must see" to my list.

I also watch this show.

And I admit to laughing out loud (literally) when the girl fell right on her bum while in the kick line! :rotfl2:

Although I could certainly never do them, I'm always surprised at how amazed people are at jump splits. All the local HS drill teams require them..my D was doing them as a freshman, and last week, the whole varsity line (60+ girls) did them at the end of their kick dance...to many "oohs" and "ahs" in the crowd.
