Be safe Lisa! The US State Dept. issued a revised travel advisory for Haiti on Friday. It's been all over the news here in South Florida...
WASHINGTON -- The State Department has issued a revised Haiti travel advisory, warning Americans planning to travel to the Caribbean island nation about robbery, lawlessness, infectious disease and poor medical facilities.
"U.S. citizens have been victims of violent crime, including murder and kidnapping, predominantly in the Port-au-Prince area. No one is safe from kidnapping, regardless of occupation, nationality, race, gender or age," the department said.
The new travel warning was released Friday to replace a less strongly worded advisory issued in June. In recent months, travelers arriving in Port-au-Prince, the capital and largest city, on flights from the United States have been attacked and robbed after leaving the airport.
Christmas decorations all put away. Now I am exhausted! I was thinking of scrapping for awhile but I don't think I have the energy. Maybe I will grab Julia and watch a movie.
Lisa, please be carefule in Haiti, that is a scary travel warning....
thank you for the concern Becky and Cassey....we will be travelling with a large group and will be with them the entire trip! only eating food and water from the orphanage which is clean and safe! they have a medical facility at the orphanage and we are also bringing in basic meds, etc for ourselves. know that we will be safe and sound and well protected!
Unfortunately, that State Department warning for Haiti is very common. (We have a Haitian client who could not get life insurance because of his travel to see family there). It's generally Port au Prince that's the problem. Regardless, I know Lisa will be very safe with her group.
We ended up with over a foot of snow Saturday night into Sunday. Didn't do much of anything yesterday, did get to Jo's to get paper for 2 of my sketch swap layouts, 5/$1 and 15% off.
Today we saw Wreck-it Ralph and did some after Christmas shopping. Morgan got a ton of Macy's gift cards, so we went there and she found the cutest little faux shearling jacket and some jewelry. Men do not get it..."she's got 3 jackets, what does she need that one for?" She doesn't neeeeeeeeeeeeeed it, she wants it It's her money, let her buy what she wants. I had to go to another Jo's to find more of the paper I needed, so we also got clearance fabric to make some holiday pillowcases. We had Kohls cash to spend so she and DH both got hunting caps.
DH is making shrimp scampi for dinner. I think I may have an adult beverage or two. He picked up some citrus vodka and we have cranberry ginger ale. Yum.
