So after listening to the daily fix today, I found myself pondering whether the hall of presidents should have any current president speak. Regardless of your politics (please don't post them), at some point you're going to be taken out of the magic due to the other side's President being the current speaker. For the same reason politics isn't allowed on these boards, shouldn't it be kept out of the parks?

Obviously, it's too late now, but to go back and change it so that it's Lincoln speaking the whole time would be so much better. Keep adding the current presidents by all means...

Thoughts?

p.s. I think I'm within the no politics rule (?), please do not change that!

I think since a precedent with a sitting President speaking was already started - to change it now would look political - REGARDLESS of your politics, would set a dangerous precedent, and be a slippery slope, and I personally don't want to see them start going down that path now.

By the way - TOTALLY agreed with @WebmasterPete and his very eloquently stated feelings today. I may, or may not, support the current President, but I served to defend, and still support, the United States of America, and its democratic system.

This is an interesting subject. One could say politics should be kept out of the parks but political influences have always been and will continue to be in the parks. You can look at Liberty Square itself, its a colonial town much like those of the founding fathers, and say that is political.

Walt had a fascination of sorts with Abraham Lincoln.

Politics also go deeper than just that of government officials.

I agree that Disney has to continue with the precedence they set.

I said weeks ago when this topic first came up regarding the Hall of Presidents refurb, that Disney made a mistake when they started this trend with Bill Clinton. We are simply too divided as a nation. Abraham Lincoln should have remained the sole speaker.

However, now that the precedence has been set, as Pete said, Disney would be out of their minds to ban Donald Trump from recording his contribution.

Don't try to shut others choices down due to your political beliefs.

I'm sorry if you thought I was trying to shut anyone out, not my intent. Not supporting the petition here. Just thinking about the idea that both sides at some point will be taken out of the bubble. The bubble (for everyone) is what's important to me here.

Knowing @CampbellzSoup the way I do, I honestly do not think the remark was directed at you, he was just speaking in general.

How about having Trump take the oath of office, then have Lincoln give the last paragraph of his first inaugural address:

I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

Yes my love it was a general statement I stay out of politics because it divides and tears people apart no matter what side of the fence you are on about anything.

I am just a firm firm believe of free speech, and debate.

If I wanted to address the poster directly I would have used the wuote feature.

I tend to always try to put myself in the shoes of someone arguing against my point - or to try to think like how others would. So in this case, what would the argument be for Disney not including Trump/not having hims speak.

I think it would be that people feel it isn't just "we lost the election" but rather what Trump represents is so against what America should be about and things he said in the campaign, etc. being so negative that he shouldn't be given the respect of the other presidents and that it would be Disney making a statement about what is right and wrong

The issue I have with that is where is the line? Ok, even if everyone agrees Trump is bad and shouldn't be represented, what do you do the next time when someone is bad, but not that bad and some people still feel that person shouldn't be in the Hall of Presidents? Do you then not have that person talk?

Obviously looking back it would have been best to not change the main speaker to being the current president, but as @SorcererHeidi so excellently put - to change it now would be a political statement by Disney. If they are willing to make that statement, then so be it, but what happens the next time someone makes a petition? and the time after that, etc.?

@TheMaxRebo well said. Clearly this is all hypothetical, as you (and others) are quite right in that changing the way they do it now would be a political statement. They've painted themselves into a corner in which is always going to be some % of the population that will think the current POTUS is bad.
