D23 Parks Live Stream Discussion

Even if you don't visit Tom Sawyer's Island or don't care for the river boat, their removal just isn't needed. This isn't Disneyland with limited land, Magic Kingdom has 100s to 1000s of acres around it that can be used for expansion. Removing rides for new ones at any of the WDW parks makes no sense. They need to expand outwards to help thin the crowds out.

.
It's in the concept art. What's now Frontierland is on the left - Big Thunder is up top. What's now the river has cars driving through it (look for the purple and teal vehicles on the mid-lower left).

I feel the same as you. I believe River's of America and TSI will be replaced by new Cars attractions.

My interpretation is:

1 - Country Bears
2 - Pecos Bills
3 - Tiana's
4 - Big Thunder Mountain

I'll admit I could be 100% wrong, it's just what I'm seeing based on landmarks we already know.

The other tell for me are the pedestrian walkways and bridges - it doesn't seem like there would be anywhere for riverboats to go.

I agree but realistically, I think it’s something like less than 30% of the entirety of the land Disney owns is usable land and not swamp/near-swamp, sinkhole, or protected lands. Not to say that isn’t still lots of land to work with, but I think the area just north of the train/road back there isn’t considered good land to build on so in someways they are a bit limited, at least in that area.

I’ve never visited TSI or been on the Riverboat (gonna have to change that next trip!) in all the years we’ve been going so I don’t have a particular attachment to the area but I do love the feel and energy the area brings. I hope they can keep even some aspect of it in the competed project.

I didn’t get the impression they’re replacing Frontierland but heard they are developing beyond Big Thunder Mountain.
Not replacing, just not going to be “beyond”

The way Cars land was announced as a "reimagined" part of Frontierland, it must be replacing something. I'm inclined to believe the rumor about Tom Sawyer Island is true. I'd be fine with them retheming it for modern audiences, but my kids love that play space. With the shooting gallery and "Laughing Place" playgrounds gone, there won't be anything left in Frontierland that doesn't involve long lines and/or spending more money. Good from Disney's perspective, but not how my family likes to travel.
Yep, I agree I’m not excited about it at all. I mean what’s the view going to be from Liberty Square?

Going to lose that tranquil wooden path along the river, which I thought was so special because the Disneyland version is so chaotic.

How much hotter is it going to be in that area without the water?

Haunted Mansion is going to overlook cartoon cars?

I really hope they rethink it or at the very least dial it back a bit, I’m just not a fan. It feels like Six Flags, all income, no vibe. :(

I would be very upset if Cars land replaced Tom Sawyers Island.
We’re all going to be upset.

Yea, I’m bummed. Not sure I will be able to get out there before they close it and start draining the river. :(
Didn’t they say construction starts early 2025?

I wonder if having the TSI body of water just became too much of an insurance liability for Disney. That’s the reason they are nixing it. Insurance in general has exploded in costs.

Going to miss the wooden path at WDW. It was a nice walking path and crowd dodger.

No way will that happen. There is lots that can be done to limit the line of sight between HM and CarsLand.

Can't see that being an issue. Think about how much water there is all over WDW. Insurance doesn't stop them from maintaining that.

As we've seen over and over again, some of these announcements will come to fruition at the initially intended scale and scope, and some won't. Some may end up scrapped completely. And what we're seeing on these early-days concept art renderings will almost certainly not match reality. I'm going to reserve judgment until we see how things actually play out. In the meantime, I'm just excited for this new stuff!!

Then they're going to have a lot of other bodies of water to get rid of.

While we were there, people were talking about how someone jumped into the water just a couple of days before. From what we heard; it happens often.

And now we get to see the result of someone ruining it for everyone else. 🤬
