D23 Membership

I just tried again to book Sunday night and got nothing, I will have to keep trying, especially around the 18th of July. Oh, I wish that I could waitlist it, but no, my waitlists are tied up in a Studio and a 1 br for June 14-16. And if we don't get the WL, we are waking up at 3-4AM on the 15th to come get in line to be there opening day of Carsland! :scared1: We were willing to pay up to $6-8000 for the Carsland package at the Expo, but when it went up to $10,000 we were definitely out, and I couldn't believe it sold for $14,000!

Hopefully in August Carsland will have calmed down a little bit. I'm looking forward to really seeing it in September when all the kids go back to school.

I would love to have the VIP reserved seating and not have to spend the breaks camped out in line and make a mad dash for the seating. The WDW Dest.D was nice because the crazy Californians who are willing to line up for hours weren't there. At the 1st event people were arriving at 5AM, for the WDW one, we got down to the hall at 7:15 and were about 20th in line. We were about 500th in line at that time in CA!

I'd like to spend the breaks relaxing and eating, not running back to my Villa to make meals and rushing back to eat them in line while my partner holds our place!

We were just stunned to see those lines at Dest D..I mean we all had a seat at least, so wasn't so critical. We were at the DLH and could see the growing line from our window as we muttered "what's wrong with these people!" rushing down to join 'those people' :rotfl:. We usually ended up on the left hand side, about 1/3 back..and at one event ended up sitting next to the guy that won the night in the Dream Suite from Expo 2009..remember him?? Bob Igor had him on the stage and he didn't say anything for a long time..and then all he got out was "my Dad was a Main Street street sweeper..." before everyone cheered..so cool...they didn't do that 'look under your seat' thing last Expo but it was sure cool the first time.

Hello all,
I'm a few years late, but i'm going to finally join. Is there a benefit to having a referral; either for the person giving or receiving?

Next up, anyone want to be a referral?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

ETA: A member contacted me and I've now joined! :thumbsup2

I got the membership for a birthday present, mostly because i was more looking for a "disney fan club". While the opportunites sound pretty cool, we live no where near CA or FL, so I haven't been able to attend anything. I do get the magizines and you get access to some extra merchandise and such, but I will not be renewing my membership. Maybe when the kids are out of the house and I can travel a bit more, but for now, it just wasn't worth it.

Hope that helps! :)
I agree with you. We don't even live in the same country(tho its not that hard for us to make the trip down), so it's not for the expos etc that I am a membership, but I do enjoy knowing that Im not missing any part of that membership. I like to know that I will every issue to my home without worrying about missing a beat. Most of the issue have been really beautiful to the point where I've consider wall framing a lot of them.

When you look at it $100/year is really not a big deal. When I look at all the many other things I could spend my money on, this is a great way to get some really great magazines to treasure at home.

While I am a Charter Member of D23 I do not think the membership is worth any where near what they are charging for it. I have attended both EXPO's and several other events. While I enjoyed much of the first EXPO I was unhappy with a lot of the logistics of the event. I was thoroughly disappointed in last year's EXPO. Nothing had the "wow" factor that several of the presentations the first one did. And despite them promising improvements over the 1st one the changes made seemed to be for the worse. The crowds were horrendous.

I attended the Official Disneyana Conventions for several years and also all of the WDAC Conventions. I also attended several of the Disneyana Fan Club Conventions (formerly NFFC). Most of what I have experienced as a D23 member is repeats of Seminars & Events I attended at these other Conventions. I was extremely disappointed in the Destination D event at WDW last year and feel that the money I paid was a total waste. I did not attend the one at DL before that as from the descriptions of the seminars I knew they would be repeats of things I'd already seen & heard several times. The only D23 event I thoroughly enjoyed was Magic & Merriment at WDW in 2010. Everyone has differing opinions about the D23 events but personally I do not fell that most of the ones I attended were worth the price of admission. I am hoping to attend Sip & Scream this fall and possibly Magic & Merriment again in addition to the Fanniversary event in New York in a couple of weeks. Several of my friends refuse to attend the next EXPO and I am currently undecided.
