Cytoscopy -- Is this gonna hurt?

I have to go in next week for a cytoscopy of my bladder. All I wanna know is... Is this gonna hurt? Anyone had one? What was it like? I'm freaking out -- not only over the procedure, but over why it's being done in the first place, but that's another post.

No, it doesn't hurt. They will give you something to help you relax.

I had mine done over 5 years ago. It was done on an outpatient basis at my physician's office. I know depending on medical conditions, they sometimes have to put you totally under.

I would describe it as very uncomfortable, not really painful. They have to fill your bladder with a saline solution (if I remember correctly) which you have to hold during the procedure. As I said, it was more uncomfortable than painful. The procedure itself went very quickly (under 20 minutes). Recovery afterwards was very easy. I think I may have just taken some Ibuprofen.

My procedure was used to diagnosis interstitial cystitis.

mine was also done in my urologists office, and while it was uncomfortable and there was a small amount of pain, i wouldn't call it painful. it was also over fairly quickly, which was good.

Had it done in office and was quite uncomfortable. Didn't know what real pain was until I tried to pee for the next two days!!

Tell them you want the same stuff they give you when you get a colonscopy. That is some good Charlie Sheen type stuff, you won't have a care in the world.
