Cypress Harbour...building to request?

We finally decided on Cypress Harbour for our June vacation. One of the biggest reasons we choose this resort was due to the great reviews concerning proximity to pools and activities at the resort. So...now I need to decide what building(s) to request. We want to be near a big pool, and either the main building or activity center. Are the main building (where the food and convenience store are) and the activities center (ping-pong) on opposite ends of the resort? What activities are available at the activities center? You can see my kids' ages at the bottom of my post. We are doing the theme parks nearly every day for this 2 week trip (for part of the day, anyway) so I'd rather not have our room be too far what my kids might want to do. Thanks so much!

we have a timeshare at cypress harbour and go every year. i would stay near the registration area which is near the pool, the pizza shop, the convenience store and you can get to the activity center by boat or its only a short walk. You will enjoy Cypress Harbour guaranteed. Enjoy your trip!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! That is exactly what I have been searching for for weeks. I kept googling "resort map" but only would get an area map, not for the resort. Wow...it's much bigger than I pictured. I hope we can get a villa near a pool. Thanks again!!!:thumbsup2

There are a number of buildings that can work for you but you have to decide which area you want to be near. We like the clubhouse pool and play tennis so we choose building 51. There are other buildings near the clubhouse pool as well. If you want the island pool then there are a couple near there. We stayed in one during 2007 when the clubhouse pool was being redone. Finally, if you think the activity center is the place you want to be close to then you would choose different buildings (and there is a third, quiet pool near them). You just have to decide which you want most. That said, the resort is not that big and they have great sidewalks everywhere. Even though we were in 51 the activity center was just a short walk away. Or you can take the small boat in the lake from the CH pool to the activity center which is a fun quick ride. It is a great resort, you'll love it. Take a day off from the parks and hang out. Lots to do at the resort if you choose to take advantage.

Thanks, Jeff. I didn't know about the boat transportation. Hmmm...maybe the clubhouse pool area would be best, since the kids will probably hit the pool everyday, but only the activity center a few times. Does CH contact every guest before their stay to ask about requests, or should I call or contact them somehow before our trip?

I don't believe that they do outreach.

I've had very good success in getting the location that I want by contacting the resort a couple of weeks before our check-in date and making my request. I'd suggest calling the resort, rather than using email, for making a request. Cypress Harbour has come through in matching our request both times we've stayed there.

We were just there I think in Building 55 and my only complaint -- it felt dark and shady. When/if we stay again, I'm going to request a bldg by the Island Pool, it felt sunnier and brighter there and the buildings looked newer to me on the outside.

(Sorry for all of the questions!) Where does the boat transportation run to and from? Which pool has the kids activities (I "thought" I had read about activities for children going on AT a pool area, maybe I'm wrong). Is the island pool off kind of by itself, or is it actually close to some of the buildings? Are the main pool and island pool comparable in terms of size and amenities? (by amenities, I'm thinking of little water fountains or waterfalls, etc, to swim under, etc., things kids would enjoy). Also, how much did you tip the housekeeping each day? You all have been so helpful, it is so appreciated!:lovestruc

Is Cypress Gardens or the Marriott Grand Vista closer to Universal? :goodvibes

The boat runs from the dock at the clubhouse pool to the activity center. It is docked at the activity center. If you are at the Club house pool there is a phone there. You just pick it up and they come and get you for a nice quick ride over the small lake. You may have to wait a minute if the guy is helping with some activity. They do not run the boat on windy or stormy days.

Most of the activities are at the activity center. At the clubhouse pool you'll find music entertainment and some of the night time activities but everything else is at the activity center. They may do a few activities at the island pool.

the island pool is near some of the buildings as well. It is not off by itself, right in the center actually.

The clubhouse pool has a larger bar, the pizza hut and grille, three hot tubs and a large deck for sunning yourself. There is also a kiddie pool and the large pool has a bubble section. We like this pool best. The island pool has a water fall, a sauna, kiddie pool, and two hot tubs, and a beach. Both are about the same size, island pool slightly larger.

We don't have daily housekeeping so we didn't have to tip.

So far we've stayed in Buildings 50 and 51. We liked the location because we were not too far from the main lobby/pool and not far to the recreation area/quiet pool area either. I think any refurbished building on the main lake would be fine, though. We like Cypress Harbour as good as we do our DVC. Since we are Marriott owners, Marriott made a point of giving us the top floor in Building 50 in an end unit - we loved it (lots of extra light with the extra window on the end unit). Our room keys said owner, too. Cypress Harbour also has an owners desk they let us check in at, which is nice. I really like the way Marriott treats their vacation club owners. Of course, I think Cypress Harbour tries extra hard to please even if you aren't a Marriott owner.

From Universal Studios, Cypress Harbour is the closer resort of the two Marriotts but it isn't by a lot - Grande Vista is probably about a mile further away.

Now of Cypress Gardens and Grande Vista, Grande Vista is a lot closer to Universal Studios than Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven. :)
