Cutting my hair for the first time in 8 years tonight!!

on a side note: i wanted to donate my hair to locks of love, but on their website it says color treated hair is ok, but highlighted hair is not should i try and send it in anyway? if they can't use it, i won't be upset, but maybe there's a possibility that they can use some of it??

On the site it says that hair not meeting their requirements will be sold, and they use those funds to help make the wigs and whatnot, so you'd still be helping even if the hair doesn't go directly into one of their wigs. I've donated to locks of love three times in the past 6 years, and I think it's great. They have always sent a little thank you card and it makes me feel good. That's what I do now, grow out my hair until it annoys me, chop off up to my shoulders getting about 18" to donate, and do it again!

I donated my hair to Locks of Love a few years ago (14 inches). It felt nice that it was going to somewhere where they could use it instead of swept into the trash.

It looks great! Don't forget about getting a trim in the next 6 - 8 weeks. My gay colorist kept making fun of my bra-strap length hair, but I resisted, until I was blowing out dd13's hair, and realized we had the same exact haircut! It's now shoulder length.

My DH short hair too - I actually had a crew cut when we met!
But now, 20-some years later, I think a nice pretty cut like yours would make us both happy! (My hair is about the length of your before, maybe a tad longer.... and the ends are soooooooooo dry....)

I just hate to part with the money - espcially for the color. I'd like to do that at home, but have no idea what type to buy, etc. What brand/color is that - if that's ok to ask? Was it pretty easy to do?

And to reiterate what others have said, it looks great and SO healthy now ... wonderful!!!

As for the sally beauty lady...meh. I used to "dump bleach on my head", as I called it (get the lightest blond color, apply, be happy with whatever my hair did with it), and when I stopped doing that while pg, I've found that my natural hair colorS do not all match. We do not all have Heather Locklear hair (all one color). I now call my hair calico. If your username matches your ancestry, you very well might be calico, too. I sometimes will find even a black hair attached to my head, along with the blondey browny reddish hairs growing.

I'd love to see what your hair does when *not* straightened.

They tend to have to thin it out quite a bit (I'm of the opinion that that cut is great for thinner hair and works really well in that case), but with thick hair, and wavy/curly, it just takes WAY too much work to make it look right.

Since you sound like you have some ideas for us wavy/curly people do you have any pics you could post of cuts/styles (about shoulder length) you think would be good? I think half the reason - besides being cheap - that I havent cut mine in ages (except trims) is I dont know what to do with it. I thought the OP's 'wish' cut was cute and it never occured to me that it wouldnt be good for wavy or thick hair...but I am pretty clueless about these things.

(I am hoping to find a good pic to take to the hairdressers when I do go - hopefully soon.... espcecially before I cut it all off myself. In desperation yesterday I trimmed about 2 inches off of the dead ends - but no styling was done....)

my hair was about this length when i first met my DH too lol, i think that's why he likes it so much. my ends were super dry too, that's why i had to just do it and get it over with.

i believe it was Clairol but not the box, it was an actual professional bottle i bought at Sally's. it's really not that expensive. for the dye, i bought two bottles, and it was $10 and my friend already had the bleach for the highlights but the packet for that is only like $3-$4. my mother has done my hair before, too(before i stared getting highlights) so if she can do it, i think anyone can lol but i think it's just harder to do it on yourself since you can't see everything, you know?

i had blonde hair about 8 years ago and that's the only time i've ever had to bleach the whole thing. yeah my "natural" color has a few different colors to it, actually. but it's much darker than i normally like.

yeah i didn't wash it today so it's still straight but tomorrow i probably will and i'll have to see how it comes out when it curls back up.

well....i kind of just gave her that picture as a guide, i had a feeling i wouldn't be able to go that short since my hair is pretty thick. she told me she'd keep it a little longer and cut as we go so i can see and that's when i told her to stop because i was happy with it.

My DD10 has alopecai areata - for about 3-4yrs she was universalis (total loss of body hair) and we got a Locks of Love Wig. their wigs are absolutely gorgeous... my daughter was thrilled. You can get a wig from them every 18 months through age 18 I believe (unless they changed policies).

She has since grown some hair back - and while not a full head of hair, it is hair! And to get a LOL wig you need to shave any hair on her head to make a mold of your head for the wig since they are custom fit... and she refuses to even cut a single hair (I can't blame her). And she likes to go without any wig or hat at this point anyway. But good for you for donating it - no matter who you donate it to!
