So.....it's come to an end. I'm sick of my hair. it's 22 inches long from root to ends, and it's almost to my butt.

Yes......it looks really nice when it's all done up, but getting to that point is insane! i can't even wash it everyday because it takes almost an hour in the shower, i can't blowdry it because my hair will frizz up so i have to let it air dry which can take 5-6 hours. plus when i do wash it, after it takes me 30-45 minutes just to brush it all out, i have to do it in sections.

It's not healthy at all anymore. I have it dyed and highlighted and the bottom half of it isn't healthy. and it's so curly and frizzy and thick.

my DSIL, DFIL, and DMom are all telling me "DON'T CUT IT!" but....they don't have to deal with it on a daily basis.

i KIND of want this cut:

but i'm going to talk to the girl doing my hair and see if i can go that short, with my hair being so thick. either way, most of it is getting chopped off!

i'm nervous tho! like i said.....it's been 8 years! wish me luck guys!!

on a side note: i wanted to donate my hair to locks of love, but on their website it says color treated hair is ok, but highlighted hair is not :sad1: should i try and send it in anyway? if they can't use it, i won't be upset, but maybe there's a possibility that they can use some of it??

WOW, that is a LOT of hair. What color is it, maybe I can glue some on the top if DH's head--he won't mind the highlights :lmao:

Maybe you can do an all over color before you get it cut so Locks of Love will take it???

Ooh I like that cut! I say go for it. If your hairdresser says you should leave it a little longer, then go with that. I think you will be fine. I have super thick hair, and mine is about chin length but has spiky layers everywhere and it works with my hair. I'm not sure about the locks of love, because I've never done that before. Good luck, and get that hair cut! :thumbsup2 I'm sure you will look great!!

I had hair down to my backside and I cut it just before Summer. The ends were getting frayed from the dye and the blowing and the washing and the curling.

Instead of going really short, I opted for a longer cut that lands just at my bra strap, at the suggestion of my stylist. My hair looks very healthy now and I can ponytail it and put it up or wear it down. I had the ends flipped a bit, so that I can curl it into a out-flip or an under-flip with a round brush and hair-dryer. I really like it and it is easy to care for! That's the best part!

Get it cut. At least the bottom half that you say is unhealthy. One good thing about hair - it will grow back. :)

My dd has alopecia areata. To donate hair I would look into www.childrenwithhairloss.us The group makes wigs for kids with any type of medical hairloss and if needed will give one wig a year until adulthood. I found this group very friendly and helpful.

8 YEARS? Holy cow!!! I get split ends after 8 WEEKS and I RUN, not walk, into my beauty salon.
I would also LOVE to see some before and after pics.

I think that length of hair is very flattering. (the one in the pic)

I have a very similar cut as to what your pix is...mine is a drop shorter though....LOVE IT!
Anyhoo, THANKS for considering donating your hair if you can..it really DOES make a difference to someone that Needs it...I was one of those "BOLD" types that went Bald and Proud during Chemo and despite buying a couple of wigs, it just was not comfortable for me....so "naked" I was...I gave them away myself................then I got wavy hair post chemo (I was PIN straight before) and now, 4 years later...a slight wave....amazing huh....

Good Luck...I say GO FOR IT!!! :wizard: POST some pix, before and after!!

I like that cut. I'm thinking about getting mine cut (though not as drastic).

Very cute haircut. Good luck with your decision. I had about 6 inches cut off mine last week and I love it. Much easier to take care of and I've received tons of complements. Makes getting ready in the morning much less of a chore!

I think normally the Locks of Love type groups just ask that the hair donated hasn't been bleached (therein lies the no highlights).

From the Locks of Love FAQ:
Q. Can I donate bleached hair?
A. No, we cannot use bleached hair. The bleach causes the hair to dissolve as it goes through the manufacturing process. Note: Many times highlights are done with bleach.

Your family is the opposite of mine. All I hear is that I need to cut my hair. I haven't had it cut in a few years and it's down to my butt. I do plan on cutting it, I just have to work up the nerve first.

Thanks for posting that link. When I cut my hair I'll be sending it to them.

We need before and after pics!!!

That's a lot of hair!!! And very nice of you to donate it..:goodvibes

I like the photo of the cut you want - very attractive..:santa:

thank you SO much for that link!!!!! since locks of love won't allow bleach, i think i'm going to send it here! it doesn't matter where it goes to me, really, as long as someone can use it. i hate to see all of it go to waste, you know??

my DH was actually the ONLY one who was telling me i SHOULD get it cut lol. he started saying it after our wedding, last year, that i should get it cut. he likes shorter hair on women, he's a bit different that way lol.

but i do have before and after pictures! it's only of the back of me tho, obviously so you can see all of the hair lol! it's not AS short as in the original picture i posted, but it's not much longer. plus the girl straightened it, once it curls back up it'll be shorter.

anyway......on to the pix:

i had a friend of a friend do it for me, and so i told her i'd go and buy the hairdye for her to use. so i went to Sally's beforehand, and i asked the one girl at the counter if she could help me match the color and she says to me "i can't tell you what to get, i can only suggest" so i said "uhh..ok. can you suggest?" so she says to me "first of all, you're going to have to bleach your roots to get them to match the rest of your hair"....:confused3 what!? i've never had to do that before in my entire life! then she tells me "well i'm a professional, i know what i'm talking about!" so i said thanks and told her i'd figure it out on my own. my husband and i found something similar and she was able to get the roots just fine without bleaching them.

that was the strangest thing i've ever heard tho....

That looks gorgeous!! I'm very impressed, both with the cut and the color! :thumbsup2
