Cutting cable question

I have read a few posts on this and had a question for those that have been successful.

My biggest reason to not being able to cut cable is DH addiction to sports. He has ESPN on 24/7.

I have a PS3 and Wii, so we do stream Netflix but is there an alternative for Sports?

Good question! If it weren't for sports, we would probably be able to drop cable too. I'm interested in the responses you are going to get.

Xbox360 and PS3 allows streaming of ESPN3, BUT (big but!) in order to access it you must have cable, not just internet. So while you can watch them on those devices, you must have cable and ESPN in your package. Otherwise, legally, there is no alternative to getting sports channels.

The sports availability is our major problem with dropping satellite. Today is the last NASCAR race so we will go to our local sports bar to eat lunch and watch the race. The past 2 months my poor husband has just listened to it on the radio. We will probably get cable or satellite again for the first race in Feb, but for now, I am enjoying saving the hard, cold cash.

We can access ESPN 3 here on our computer and connect the laptop to the tv. We don't have cable at all, just internet through the phone company. Certain things are blocked out (Monday night football being one off the top of my head), but we are able to watch college football games on Saturdays through ESPN 3. It depends on who your Internet carrier is, not necessarily what you have with cable that determines what you can access on ESPN 3. With our cable, we had no access... Said that it didn't support it. Maybe check what you can access there first before cutting the cable! Good luck!!

On the ESPN site, there is a list of internet providers that carry ESPN360. I haven't tried it because our internet service isn't one of the providers but it's worth a shot. That is the only thing holding us back from cancelling cable outright too. We did drop to a really low package that still offers ESPN.

DH does not ask for much so I'm ok with his college b-ball obsession.
