I called the Dream Makers as I want to surprised the hubbie on what we are calling our second honeymoon!! Ive booked a room at the Disneyland Hotel as a surprise and want to put something brilliant in it to bump up the celebration.
Torn between the Mickeys Grand Welcome in room celebration ($310) or a customised gift.
The customised gift costs $40 plus whatever items you choose.

Unsure whether to go for the celebration which means you basically get goods to the value of the $310 but includes 4 or 5 plushes and several items we would never buy. All lovely - but we need to fly back to the UK with this stuff!!

Or I can ask for a customised gift - giving credit card number to CM and they shop for you. But I need to provide a list I think and then they shop and I get charged the $40 for the service plus what they buy. Feel weird giving credit card in this way but would maybe get more appropriate adult gifts.

Thoughts anyone? Sorry this was so long, just want the surprise to be great!!!

If your DH has a sweet tooth, you can get him a cookie bouquet through Cookies By Design. I've heard good things about the Long Beach store, and if you call them direct you get 10% off your order. I intend on surprising the family next month with their survival kit, and maybe one other thing. Something to think about.

We did the grand celebration for our 2 girls this past spring, and it was totally worth it, loads of fun. We drove, and had a hard time finding room for all of the items in our van, with the other luggage and such.

As much fun as the grand celebration is, you might want to look at the customized gift, just based on the size, and you would probably be able to get more grown up stuff, our girls loved it though.

Thanks for the advice. Wondering how helpful the dream makers are. The girl i spoke to was pleasant enough but not terribly helpful. Wonder if I might get luckier on my next call!!! Gonna need some help if I go for the customised option!!

I agree we did the grand celebration and it was a LOT of stuff. My kids LOVED it but you get this HUGE box and although you don't need to keep it it was really neat and we kept it just cuz it was cool. You also get a really nice LARGE mylar baloon that we wanted to keep and eventhough we drove it didn't quite make it home. It lasted the entire length of our vacation but then putting it in the car with the heat and then having to close the trunk on it it kind of deflated. You also get a bouquet of reg baloons but those didn't even last the trip.

I agree if you are flying a smaller personalized gift would probably be better and also most of the stuff was geared towards the kids.

There is also this "in room celebration" you might consider:
From Mickey & Minnie with Love - $265 (tax included)
From the moment you step into your Disneyland Resort Hotel room, you step into a world of romance! *We heard congratulations were in order so we sprinkled the bed with rose petals and added a touch of magic! *Cozy, personalized robes lay across the foot of the bed and a spa basket for two sits waiting for you and your loved one. *A splash of castle confetti, candlelight and chocolate roses add the final touch to set just the right mood. *If you look close you will find Tinker Bell’s shadow, she stopped by to sprinkle some Pixie Dust. All of this is not only there for you to enjoy while you visit but every piece is meant for you to take home and continue to enjoy with love!

This one might be cool - as the stuff is geared towards adults and probably more portable. So torn though, as the big boxes and mickey look so cute!!

Kelmac - any chance you have pictures?

I do! I would have to try and post some on photobucket and then get them on here. I usually just post everything on facebook now LOL. Let me see what I can do! :)

Wow - thanks for sharing!! Did you get just the one box? I was under the impression there were several different colour ones?
Very cute family, they look chuffed!!

Nope that is pretty much everything you get. I thought it was all really fun though and well worth it and other than the stuffed animals most of the stuff is fun for grownups. There was the popcorn, lollipops and candy and we got the frame, hidden mickey book and a nice photo album. There is also playing cards, a vinylmation and a mickey ball. The only other thing really geared towards kids was a plastic mickey glow deal. But we all loved it!

I would like to do something smaller another time.

We are going for my daughter's birthday in 2013 and I really want to do a personalized basket.

I hope I can get the right cast member because when I called this last time I had a heck of a time getting anyone to help. I have heard you can get someone to do a personalized shopping trip but the lady I talked to did not mention it. ???

Yeah you deffo can, but you really need a helpful CM to get it done!! The girl I was talking too - getting information was like pulling teeth!! After asking various questions for about 20 minutes, we got to the point where she said they do personal shopping for a set fee of $40. You can give them a list of items and say "Winnie the Pooh" themed or "Mickey" themed.

She was really hard work though, which sounds like the sort of CM you were lucky enough to get haha.

I assume you just give them a list and/or a budget?! But you cant get balloons from them, you have to order them from your hotel reception.

Its all kinda awkward, think they try to point you towards the in-room clebrations or standard baskets.

Your celebration did look great and a nice lot of things - I just thought she said that there were different boxes, I prob got mixed up!!

Just a follow up, I finally went for a Customised Gift! The lady I spoke to (Barbara) was very nice and pretty helpful compared to my previous experience. She stated only $25 to customise (compared to the previous $40 I was quoted) but said they couldnt do the nice gift boxes shown on the inroom celebrations.

She just took an overall maximum $ amount I wanted to spend and then asked if I wanted to specify some items to include (tee, photo frame, halloween mickey, sweets etc) and if I had a special character in mind.

When I asked about a balloon bouquet, she said they didnt do them, but she could arrange it with the hotel if I wanted. She offered to charge it to the same card or to the room and agreed to have everything put in the room while we're out (between 4-6pm).

So all in all - pretty darn excited!! Not sure what I think the balloons will achieve other than atmosphere, will have to find some kids to give them to the next day!!:cloud9:

As a balloon lover myself, I think it's great you added the balloons! You'll have to let us know how it comes out (pictures???) I'd love to see it!

1) I am happily LOL because as I was reading this thread, I was planning on replying that you NEED to call and ask for BARBARA. I spoke with her about six weeks ago about these kinds of things, and she was so helpful and had suggestions for customized baskets based on what I told her about my son, etc. Not all CMs are created equal.
2) I'm also pleased to hear that you, like I, were quoted $25 rather than $40 for some personal shopping.
3) Aww, that's so nice about giving away the balloons once you've had your fun with them. My kids LOVE balloons, so I expect you'll really make someone's day.

If you call the hotel they will note on your reservation that you are celebrating. My best friend and her hubby were celebrating their 15th anniversary several years ago so I called to make sure the hotel knew. That first night when they came back to their room they had rose petals on the bed and balloons and a signed picture from Mickey and Minnie. No charge for any of that either. :) Also had a plate of the chocolate dipped tuxedo strawberries delivered to their room.
