I was just wondering if anyone had some info on the whole cake ordering process?

My friend and I would like to order two separate cakes for our trip. We do not want to eat these cakes while on vacation. Our intention is to bring them home to our families as souvenirs.

I am liking the "Mad Hatter" style I see on the board and would like to go with that. As for the theme, the more colorful/unusual the better....

We would like the cakes to be delivered to our room the night before we leave. However, we could pick them up the morning we leave too.. either way.

Anyone have any advice? I talked with the rep who made our ADR's about cakes for a moment. She informed me that if you call the "cake line" those orders would be made in the "professional bakery". Anyone know anything about the cakes that come from there?

I love things like cream cheese frosting, buttercream, Bavarian cream filling... as much as I want the cake to "look" good, I would also like it to taste really good/fresh/moist.

So, anything?

do a search .. there is a whole huge thread about custom cake ordering

Remember if you order anything with any kind of dairy (cream cheese, bavarian cream, mousse) it would need to be kept cool during transit.

Yea, we only live a few hours away and will be bringing an ice chest just for the cakes.

i dont have much advice besides visiting the cake thread, but if you think it would be easier to pick up your cakes the morning you leave, boardwalk bakery would most likely be your best bet. i think they are the only bakery that has a "storefront" therefore, they are the only bakery that can make cakes available for pick up.

I wonder if we could just make our orders in person when we are there at The Boardwalk Bakery. I feel as though if we did that they would be really fresh.

I was looking into getting a cake for us to have at our condo during our trip. From what I read on the cake thread, the actual taste of the cakes can be hit and miss. I'm looking into getting one from Publix since the reviews for their cakes seem to be really good, and the decor is said to be as good or better than those from the Disney bakeries, and they are a fraction of the cost. You can see some of their designs on their website.

Yea, but there is a Publix in my town... I want something from Disney...

Be sure and check the cake thread for prices also - the Mad Hatter cake you mention can run about $120+ :goodvibes

Great questions!

I am going to close this thread now and refer everyone over to the Cake Chatter thread that is linked above. All our resident cake gurus post in that thread and will be a valuable source of information for everyone.
