I just got accepted for my second DCP, this time in the Custodial role. I applied for it because I had a roommate last program who really enjoyed it, but now I'm afraid I'm having second thoughts.

I definitely want to go back though, so has anybody here done the Custodial role before? I guess I just want to hear a couple of good stories before I accept :p

One of my roommates was custodial at WWS. I heard some pretty bad stories about things he had to deal with, but he made a lot of friends and had fun :cool1:

I got custodial and I'm really looking forward to my role! Every role Disney has its pros and cons.

The worst thing we might have to do as custodian is clean up poop. Vomit really isn't that bad

So I got accepted for Custodial for this Fall, I did a lot of research before and read a lot of what people were saying in the Custodial Facebook group. I was apprehensive like you because I thought I'd be wiping poop off a toilet all day. Well were actually going to have the best time. You have to clean the bathrooms but not constantly and from what I'm told it's not hard or that gross, you have to go on a trash runs but they are easy as well, and the other time you spend using your pan and broom. But the best part is all that stuff is spread out throughout your shift so most of the time you are walking around your designated area and interacting with guests and WE GET TO LEARN WATER ART! plus they provide us shoes, so you don't need to buy them. Custodial is the secret of the DCP, everyone thinks it's all gross work, but were the ones with the most freedom and the most guest interaction. Hope this helps

Hey!

I'm not in custodial, but I have seen the water art and it is awesome!!
I never saw it at DLR before but went to Hong Kong Disney and it was there and it was really awesome. People were drawing Jack from Nightmare, Mickey, Pluto, ect. Hope you all have fun!

I found the same info online and I'm very excited for Fall Advantage. I really hope I get into a park! Water art FTW :cool1:

I just got accepted for Custodial too! I am on the fence about accepting though. I have a decent job right now, so it would be a HUGE pay cut. I'm also having trouble explaining to people that "Custodial Guest Services" is actually a really cool thing.

Son did Custodial at Epcot World Showcase for Fall 13. About 90% of his, and the rest of the CPs time was scheduled in Restrooms. Yes, that was easy, but not exactly what he had expected. He had heard about guest interaction...well, in the restroom that's kind of awkward. They offered water art once, and he wasn't able to take it. Overall, he had a good CP experience, but it wasn't due to his role.

Thanks, bro.

Joe Billi...No problem. He did pick up a resort shift one day at Pop Century and loved it...and apparently other Custodial CPs in other locations had a good program work wise..So I kind of think it depends on your location. Also, being Fall Advantage, you'll probably have more opportunities to take the Water Art class. He was just Fall. He took the Entertainment/Production class and loved it. Was able to get into a Puppetry workshop for a day. Visited the entertainment offices with a friend of mine who is production management, met his girlfriend, and went to the parks constantly. So even if your work location ends up being a dud, the experience overall is well worth it. Good Luck.

My daughter is presently doing custodial at DAK and loves it. Somedays she has restrooms but not everyday(dep on what they schedule you for) she has met great people, and is enjoying her life.
She is supposed to end in May but wants to extend till August.

My daughter did the Spring '13 college program and worked at Kilimanjaro Safaris. She extended till August and then again till January. She is seasonal now and went down last week and worked during her spring break. She loves working at AK. she wants to move down after she graduates in December and will also work there this summer. I totally know what you mean about them enjoying their life. Same with my daughter. She loved living in Florida and she made some really nice (and close) friends.

I did custodial Summer 2007. While I was a bit apprehensive, I wound up really enjoying it. I loved my location (I was Epcot WS), and the people I was with. The hours weren't too bad (since Epcot typically closes at 9pm). And there is a lot of freedom with custodial. My favorite part was getting to work the different events at AA. I am sad I never got to do the water art though (it came about after I left custodial).

I did Custodial in Fall 2011. As others have explained your schedule may vary (streets and restrooms periodically) or you might be in one of those most of the time. Obviously there are some things that are not so fun about both, but the guest interaction totally makes up for it.

I started off feeling apprehensive about my role but ended up loving it. My location was "Magic Kingdom East" which is Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. I got to work the Halloween and Christmas parties, and had so much fun! Definitely take the water art class if you can!

I did Custodial at WDW Fall 2014. I was a resort custodial and I worked at the Polynesian and it was literally the best location and role EVER.
There is so much freedom in Custodial! Especially if you work resort custodial because you will have the option (location depending) to cross train in different roles.
Working at the Poly meant I watched Wishes and the electric water parade every night! And I was always insight of the castle.

If you have any questions about custodial feel free to message me!

I did my cp spring '13 to January '14 now I am seasonal. I loved custodial. My home park is DHS and its definitely the best park to work with this role I think. It's very laid back and such a small park it's great. My roommate was custodial at MK and hated it so I do believe where your placed makes a big impact

MK custodial North spring 2004 CP here - LOVED it! When I was there the Snow Birds all wanted restroom shifts (For the air conditioning) so I didn't have too many restroom shifts. But even when I did I loved it - there is always something to keep you busy and you get to move around a lot. Friends in attractions would be stuck standing in one place while I was wandering down to City Hall to turn in a lost camera, leading guests through SpectroMagic crowds to ensure they made it to their ADR, and wandering around helping kids find lost parents. Plus, my manager knew I was a die hard Disney fan so on slow days he took me behind the scenes on certain rides to show me how they worked.

Im also in custodial! Is there anything that we need or do they have everything for us? and how good are the shoes? i start aug. 4th. =]

The "Tragic Kingdom" is not the place to be for Custodial or QSFB

My S did QSFB @ WWS - loved it
then did QSFB @ MK - hated it

One of his roommates is also at MK as custodial - hated it too. Another one is at DAK - loved it
